SPECULATION: Sean St Ledger

by chilipepper91 » 05 Jan 2012 10:49

Signed for Leicester in June for around £1.2m, now transfer listed after a row with Nigel Pearson there. Could be that defensive cover we need? Though I'm guessing he would want first-team football, and with Pearce and Gorkss performing wonders (Cardiff aside) he might not be guaranteed that...

Transfer-listed defender Sean St Ledger could be a January target for Ipswich.

The Mercury understands that manager Paul Jewell is determined to land St Ledger and shore up a Tractor Boys defence which conceded three goals to shot-shy Nottingham Forest on Monday.

St Ledger was the subject of two bids from Ipswich during his time at Preston before he joined City last summer for an undisclosed fee.

Huddersfield had also been linked with the 27-year-old Republic of Ireland international but Terriers manager Lee Clark said: "It's not a name we have discussed."

St Ledger has been told by Pearson he can look for another club.

He has made 10 league appearances, including two as a substitute, but has not been able to command a regular place.

He's 10x better than Mills so i dont understand why he doesn't play........also he passes the ball out of defence, rather than hoofing it

Always quite liked him and thought he'd have made an excellent signing in the summer.

If he's on that kind of money then Leicester are going to have trouble getting rid of him easily and he'll need to take quite a pay cut to come here as he wouldn't be likely to come in as one of our top earners whilst probably not walking straight into the team let alone being an automatic pick.

Decent player if he can recapture his form though.

He wont be on 20k a week coming from relegated PNE. I'd be shocked if they gave him 10k a week.

He's not 10x better than Mills maybe you could have had an argument 3 years ago for him being better but not now. He's gone from Liverpool and Villa looking at him to Huddersfield and Ipswich in just over a year and he's had a few knee problems.

Always rated St Ledger...agree that he can pass the ball out of defence rather than hoof...but his attitude always seems to let him down...first spotted when he was at Peterborough and featured in Big Ron Manager* and his many run-ins with the then manager Bleasdale.

 so not only WCBAP but also BACBAP...

Not really a Reading 'type' player so unlikely anything will happen...

*quality series...

Agreed terms with Ipswich, but has "a few options" on the table
