RUMOUR - Kebe's replacement will be O'Kane.

by jonnyroyal1871 » 17 Jan 2012 21:21

If Jimmy goes this month, his replacement will be Euanan O'Kane from Torquay. Speedy, consistent, eye for a goal, and has improved greatly over the last 18 months, far too good now for L2. Expect a fee circa 250k, and an outgoing loan to Plainmoor.

Guessing Wiki lies when it says he's 5'6 then. Torquay OS says he's 5'8 but then the player celebrating with him after the first one must be a midget.

In that clip he seems to be playing more centrally...

He tends to play more inside right when Danny Stevens (v.small winger mentioned in youtube post) plays, but better out right. Having watched him a number of times this season, I prefer him to Ritchie at Swindon, who is valued at double. A typical Reading signing, and my info is strong (as it was with the ALF signing)

Been scouting him for about 18months but not shown any firm interest in that time, can't say I know much about the player though

So you've been scouting him for some time but you don't know much about him? You aren't a very good scout then.........

A very 'Reading signing' Hmm Eunan likes to pass the ball so i'm not sure how he'll fit in. 4 teams looking at him, Reading, Coventry, Derby and Palace.

He's nothing like Kebe, he plays centre midfield and as the attacking part of a 5 man midfield. Absolutely quality player that will without a shadow of doubt play in the Premier League at some point. Far too good for League 2 and at times takes the pi$$ at that level. 'better out right' Nope, if that's what Reading actually think they are mental.

Reading would have to change the way they play to get any value out of him and if they put him on the right he'd be utterly wasted.

He's more Sigurdsson than Kebe if you want a sort of player comparison, minus the set pieces. Floats about, gets on the ball passes it, good with either foot, gets forward and scores goals.

Right now we'd be better off with a quality attacking midfielder who knows where the goal is than a second striker who doesn't.

Not really, Caskey whilst quality on the ball didn't have the same style as O'Kane nor the fitness. O'Kane puts a shift in for the team as well as being the catalyst for anything good. When he first joined they played him on the right because they didn't think he was physically strong enough to play central. Now he's been at Torquay for 18months and got used to English football he's absolutely fine in that regard.

Sounds like he could be the attacking midfield option we desperately need. Certainly Alan's description indicates he's the sort of player that'd fit in well here and a shift in the Championship could be just what he needs as his next challenge rather than warming the bench, or programme squad page, in the Premiership.

Wonder what Reading's current take actually is....?

Sounds exactly what we need to be honest. Switch 4-2-3-1 (not that disimilar to our current formation, just drop a striker deeper), play better football (but not Rodgers' boreball) and hey presto. If he can play on the right, then he could be back up for HRK if that doesn't work and we have to stick with 4-4-2 - at a squeeze. Maybe.

have to say he does sound like just what we need. it's not imperative that we replace kebe. hal robson-kanu can come straight in and his crossing last week was superb. then the young lad obita can bench warm and slowly work his way into the first team.

And Obita, reckon he should be given a chance.

There we go. Whilst Kebe going is not ideal, it's not completely essential we replace him. 6 months to see how HRK does and think again in the summer.

Given the transfer therefore wouldn't have to be because of Kebe, and the apparent low fee. We may be able to shake free the cash to do it without selling Kebe.

Although on the whole it seems unlikely.
