RUMOUR - Reading look to tie up 3 deals before window closes

by Muguire » 21 Jan 2012 23:04

I've received an email from a friend of mine. It doesn't make this genuine or founded, but I have gone back and asked where he got it from. For gossip's sake, here you go:

Reading FC, in what has been a very eventful 24 hours, has become one of England's richest clubs having sold 51% of their shares to a Russian consortium headed by Anton Zingarevich.

Chairman Sir John Madejski has been quoted as saying this is the billionaire he has always hoped would come in and take over. The club can now stop selling it's top players every summer to remain one of the few clubs in the country to make an operating profit, and can now bring in a "different class of player" in their quest to get back to the Premiership and then push on and become a permanent fixture in the top division.

Last week Reading were linked with Huddersfield striker sensation Jordan Rhodes, and Reading are due to complete the £2.2m capture of his signature before the close of the January transfer window.

Also on manager Brian McDermott's shopping list is Nottingham Forest defender Wes Morgan, and highly rated Northampton winger Michael Jacobs.

The summer will see a greater investment after the 51% buyout is completed in March.

Why would they accept £2.2million from us when they rejected £3million from West Ham?

west ham didn't offer £3m up front. perhaps that's the difference. they are believed to have offere £1.5m up front with add-ons on achieving promotion and remaining in the premier league. maybe we have offered all the money up front and then a sizeable sell-on clause. who knows. it's probably nonsense like most of the rumours on this forum anyway.

We'll probably have to 'grease' up Huddersfield if we want Rhodes but I;m sure he'd become a favourite with the scorpions, especially as he's not (a) Frenchy. Could be lethal up front with Cheddar Evans as well.

Huddersfield say he's not going anywhere, now you shouldn't believe anything anyone says in regard to transfers, but still just saying.

All players are for sale if the deal being offered is attractive enough. Whether Reading have the ability to do such a deal now I don't know but let's not get carried away after all we all know how easy it is for the media to put things together and come up with all sorts of things that turn out to be complete fantasies.

Sure I heard though Morgan was on loan to a lower division club recently - or are there 2 Wes Morgans in the game at the moment?

I think we're getting a bit carried away here (myself included). We get some new owners and 'limited funds' which could be any amount and suddenly we seem to think we'll be making record signings etc. We'll only get an idea of how much will be invested every transfer window after this one has slammed shut. Still, let's hope!

£2.2m is not a record signing. forest want nearer £1m for morgan and northampton won't want the earth for jacobs. Indeed these were all rumoured targets before any take over announcement. the only difference now being that if we want them we can probably afford them, if the player(s) will come.

But we almost certainly won't get him for £2.2m. I think he'd be at least £3m by now. Add in the £1m for Morgan and say £500k for Jacobs and that's £4.5m which I can't see us spending despite the 'Limited Funds' given to McD. Time will tell but I hope I'm wrong!

The only possible chance I can see with Rhodes is if we can get him for no more than a couple of million on the basis that we could possibly stump up more money upfront than West Ham who are a bit of a state financially and can probably only afford the full amount if they get promoted.

I can't see us suddenly splurging £3m+ on one player or on any combination of players in January, even with a windfall from the potential new owners. Especially given all the comments about following the same model as before, but with a bit more cash.

Oh i do enjoy individuals writing up their own article in the style of a journalist and claiming it to be from some 'source'. Bravo.

this rumour has made it to football-rumours, the least reliable source on the internet. has your friend confirmed where he heard it?

Believable? (6) Unbelievable? (13)

You write so creatively so it's funny to see you made up such rubbish.

Why is this unbelievable when it seems to be true

as for the players, jordan rhodes looks a good shout

I don't care how much money you've got now, 2.2 will NOT get you Jordan Rhodes. Good luck trying to buy your way out of the Championship next season, it'll be harder than you think....

Before you get too excited, read the posts about Portsmouth and think on!

2.2 million for Rhodes! Ha ha you dreamer! And Morgan will be confirmed as a Leicester player in time to play vs Southampton.

Keeeeeeep dreeeeeaaaamming!

2.2 Million for rhodes? 3, 5 and 6 been turned down already!

Jacobs going to huddersfield by all accounts

Reading are one of the best run clubs in the country as far as finances are concerned. We will not be doing a Portsmouth. The new investors have promised to make funds available for transfers this January. We have been linked with pretty much every player going so who we will get remains a mystery. One thing's for sure we won't be doing a Leicester and buying every player available and watching them all flop. Reading will continue to be run in the same prudent way it always have. Id expect to see Michael Jacobs and a decent striker arrive. I doubt it will be Rhodes as Huddersfield have ridiculously inflated ideas of how much he is worth.

Ps. Don't let the green eyed monster get the better of you. Just cus the Ruskie's didn't want to invest in your team.

Yes it's a billionaire owner but that doesn't always mean we'll spend stupidly to get back to the Premiership.

Reading wont be splashing money like Leicester have to get promoted. We already have one of the best youth academy's in the Football League and further investment will be made.

As for the first team, yes we will spend more than we have in recent years but it wont be stupid money like the £5m to get Matt Mills. He was never worth £2m, let alone £5m. We have always bought players that fit into 'the Reading mould' and we will continue to do so.

I see that there is much use of the billionaire word. Is there any evidence that he is quite that wealthy? Nothing posted so far shows any hint of that level of wealth - or not that I have seen anyway.

He isn't personally hugely wealthy, he is however an entrepreneur with his finger in many pies and a history in investment management. He has lined up multiple investors and convinced madejski he has the long term future and growth of the club in mind, but as it stands we just don't know how much money there is in this take over.

Can't believe I missed that!

As long as we don't turn up to a match one day and just see a pair of feet in the centre circle I guess.
