Speculation - Paul Scharner

PAUL SCHARNER is heading for the West Brom exit door.

Scharner, 32, has failed to trigger an automatic contract extension after playing fewer than 25 games this term.

The Austrian midfield star’s current deal expires in the summer.

And he said: “I think I’ve concluded my mission at West Brom by helping them to stay in the Premier League.

“I’ve never been relegated and I’m very proud of this.

“I didn’t take up the option because it was impossible as I have not played enough games.

“To stay would need new negotiations — and that won’t be happening.

“I would like to stay because of the supporters, who are great, but the club has other plans, so it is time to move on.

“But I think I still have enough to offer someone and have set myself a new challenge somewhere else.

“It is time to finish off the season and then decide on my future.”

Meanwhile, Jonas Olsson has been voted the Baggies’ Player of the Year

Plenty of Premier League experience, pops up with a few goals each season, and with it being reported today that we have not indicated to Pompey that we want to sign Mullins I think we could do far worse than look at him.

Decent player in his day however similar to what we have - no from me but would be a great signing for a Blackburn/Wolves/Leeds looking for a quality player to get them out of the Championship etc.

Looks to have lost his legs a bit for the prem.

Amen.

I'd always liked Scharner as a player but I think he's a bit too erratic for us. Slow and steady wins the race at RFC.

Ideal Scharner was immense a few years back. Very industrious and hard working midfielder, but you wonder if he still has anything left at 32?

Bit like Roberts I guess?

We should have signed a player like Scharner during RFC's first outing in the Premiership. I have always rated this player and wouldn't say no to him joining the RFC ranks even now at the age of 32. Out of contract...go get him Brian!
