Rumour - Dan Gosling

The People says we are interested.

Never really worked out for him at Newcastle but could be the attacking midfielder we need.

Do you think we need another midfielder though? I think our midfield options are quite strong... It's the strikers that aren't producing... I'd love to see just how much shooting practice actually takes place at Hogwood...!

Erm, we don't have an attacking midfielder, nor have we since Gylfi left...

Not sure Gosling really qualifies as an attacking midfielder anyway, but he'd probably be a decent player at this level.

Desperately need a striker.

Seriously need CB cover.

Are in need of a AM.

If we bring in those 3 on loan I'd be happy enough until Jan when we buy.

Part of the reason the strikers aren't producing is the lack of decent service from the midfield. An effective AM could make all the difference.

Fair point! However, I do believe if NA actually had some of our midfielders adopt a far more attacking mentality then the 'strikers' would get the support... Drenthe can provide from behind a lone striker or front 2, as could Karacan, Williams, HRK, McCleary... and I'm sure some of the youngsters could do the job if given enough chance.

The reason the 'strikers' don't get enough service ( and I accept that they don't yet ) is because we've started to do what we used to do and that's keep going backwards. Alex Pearce is the worst at it, constantly putting McCarthy under pressure with his unnecessary back passes...

^this, Alfie, Pog, Ugwu and Blackman all worked hard against Oman yesterday, but apart from a couple of half chances created by Obita, none of them got any service whatsoever from midfield....

The People have been quite good with us in the past. I wouldn't mind Gosling. We're unlikely to be able to attract better in any case.

2 world wars, 1 world cup Desperately need a striker.

Seriously need CB cover.

Are in need of a AM.

If we bring in those 3 on loan I'd be happy enough until Jan when we buy.

This, and I would assume that these are the positions Nigel was referring to when he said he hoped to get 3 in, as he would have known that Mariappa was likely to go.

I would say, however, that the CB needs to be a bit more than cover and should provide serious competition to Morrison and Pearce. This is the area that worries me and I hope the club don't try to make do with Gorkss and a recalled Hector as some on this board are advocating.

I agree. Ideally we'll sign someone better than Pearce or Morrison or at least on par. But as an absolute minimum we need someone at least fairly decent just for cover but yes ideally as you say one to provide serious competition.

Disagree, the personnel are sufficient, the problem is with the system. We have all the midfielders we need.

Whilst many of our fans have little faith in Gorkss, myself included, it's not unreasonable for the management, who see him most days, to have faith in him given his record in the Championship and what he may or may not be doing in training.

If there's an injury or suspension, then we worry about CB. Unless something marvelous drops in our hat its not a priority. Unless Adkins thinks Gorkss isn't adequate short-term cover.
