Rumour - Elliot Omozusi

by WoodleyRoyal » 22 Apr 2014 15:56

Sky Sports understands Leyton Orient face a battle to hang on to defender Elliot Omozusi this summer.

The 25-year-old is out of contract at Orient at the end of the season and no new deal has been agreed as yet.

The news has alerted a host of Championship and League One clubs to Omozusi's possible availability on a free transfer this summer.

Omozusi has been a stand-out performer for Orient since rejoining the club in January 2013 and has been instrumental in their push for promotion from League One this season.

The full-back has made 46 appearances for Orient in all competitions this season and established himself as a key member of Russell Slade's side.

The likes of Reading, Brighton and Bristol City are all thought to be monitoring Omozusi's contract situation at Brisbane Road, with Orient keen to tie him down to a new deal.

Sources close to Omozusi claim the player is putting talk over his future on the backburner as he focuses on trying to win promotion via the play-offs.

That's our target market. I actually prefer these signings. They come in with a hunger the likes of Guthrie and Co don't have.

Could he be as good as the last full back we got from Orient?

Am I right in assuming he's a left back? Don't really need a right back unless we're confident of losing two or three.

He's a right back, in his second spell with Leyton Orient following a stint in prison, according to the official Orient website.

Let's hope he doesn't end up right back inside.

I've heard he can also operate on either wing; A Wing or B Wing.

Remember seeing him sent off against us in 2007 at Craven Cottage when he had just broken in to the Fulham team, and then never heard of him again until recently when I saw an article about how he was back at Orient after a jail spell - was one of the more surprising "so that's what happened to him" moments I've had.

I heard on the football league podcast that he's a reformed character now and does a lot of extra youth work above the normal expected.

Could do worse IMO

http://www.teamtalk.com/reading/9403503/-?

Reading are keeping tabs on Leyton Orient defender Elliot Omozusi, Sky Sports understands.

The 25-year-old was one of Orient's stand-out performers last season as they reached the League One play-off final before losing to Rotherham.

Omozusi was virtually an ever-present in Russell Slade's side, making 50 appearances for Orient and his performances have not gone unnoticed.

Orient took up an option on Omozusi's contract to extend it for a futher 12 months with his previous deal expiring this summer.

Reading are believed to be weighing up a move for Omozusi and are ready to test Orient's resolve to keep hold of the full-back.

Another right back who if required can play at centre back or fill in in midfield? Surely a proper left footed left back, centre back or striker should be a greater priority?

As for his criminal conviction, it was hardly for a minor offence - a nasty thuggish follow up to an extremely nasty murder of a 16 year old girl.

Former Fulham defender Elliot Omozusi was jailed for two and a half years on Friday for attempting to take revenge on the key witness in a murder trial.

Done a lot of mentoring work and that in the community and surrounding since, some of which has crossed over with what I do. Seems genuinely reformed.
