Summer Clear-out

by Tommio » 19 Apr 2015 18:46

I, for one, am expecting a huge clear-out this summer. SC has said in previous interviews that team isn't good enough. I'd like Norwood, cox, Blackman, HRK, Akpan and Taylor to all be sold including Yakubu, Kelly and Guthrie to all be released. This would free up our wages, meaning we can bring in some decent players. What does everyone else want to happen?

Agree with kelly, Guthrie and Taylor. Can't see us getting rid of any of the others without bringing in a player first. And I rate Norwood so would like to see him stay anyway. Also think akpan could still come good

Will depend on whether anyone wants to buy the players under contract - we need major surgery this season but will SC get the backing he needs? Would love to see Chalobah and Ake back for season long loans which would help but equally not sure I'm comfortable with the idea of turning into a Chelsea finishing school. Our biggest need, as evidenced yesterday, is a quality striker with pace.

Ferdinand, Knight, Travener, Guthrie, Yakubu all released straight off the bat.

Offer new deals to Federici, Pearce and Karacan.

If Federici signs, release Andersen - he needs regular starting football at his age. If Feds goes, then can we sign better than Andersen? If not, sign him up and make him no. 1.

Renegotiate with Kelly, but if his wages demands don't fit with the club's budget, he'll have to go.

FFP probably means we'll have to sell if we want to strengthen as much as we need to. I think that puts Norwood, Akpan, Blackman and Cox in the frame. Not suggesting we would sell all four, but certainly two or three, if we could.

Chances we'd listen to all sensible offers for our better players too. Could potentially see one, possibly two, of Hector, Obita, Williams or McLeary moving on.

We're almost certainly stuck with Pog's wages for another year. I happen to like him, but he's not worth the wages he's on.

I'd try to sign Mackie permanently, but Forest may want to keep him, or his transfer fee might eat up too much of our budget.

Lots of work to be done and it might take as many as three windows to finally get it sorted out.

Agree with that, I forgot about Knight and Travner. But Ferdinand has another year on his contract so it'll hard for us to get rid of him.

When is Blackman's contract up? Was ominous for him not even being on the bench yesterday when the 2 recent loan signings were both cup tied

Elsewhere, we have already been told Guthrie is leaving, we are probably stuck with HRK for another year, we will probably lose Pearce in a case of mistaken identity (according to the Sunday Times, he was instrumental in defence, and in creating our attacks, covering for the slightly dodgy Hector), Kelly is good cover but needs to drop wage demands, and unfortunately we will probably lose McCleary and Feds.

Need a left back, 2 goal scorers

Sadly, some of the biggest disappointments of the last few years are with us for another season unless buyers turn up. Pog, Robson-Kanu, Blackman, Akpan.

I can't say I'm enthused Gunter's has had a new deal either. And how the oxf*rd Ferdinand got a two year deal is beyond me. Utter insanity.

We desperately need a left back, left winger and a goalscorer. Really we need to replace Pog, and have Cox / Mackie running off that player with Tanner getting some more experience.

I strongly suspect that our policy will revolve around releasing players based on whether their contract ends in the numbers 2015 or not.
Be interesting to see what happens to Jem.

I can't see Clark being forced to sell anyone he wants to keep. Whether all the players he wants to keep accept new deals is another matter.
Agree that there are players who need to move on who we might not be able to shift, more due to the fact that they will be on better wages here than at clubs who would take them
Lots of work for Clark and Hammond this summer, you don't need to spend to build a good team so much will depend on their contact book, our new scouting set up and powers of persuasion.
Saturday will be a double edged sword, players will have strengthened the bond with the club, Clark, each other and the fans but also will be getting calls from agents. Would be nice to get a few contracts sorted this week.....

I suspect I speak for a few of us when I say I actually don't care who goes this summer.

If pushed I'd like to keep Pearce, Hector & Mackie. The rest can ALL leave.

Quite frankly if we lost them all then I'd get over it. Do your worst.

To reiterate something I said on another thread, Forest are under an FFP transfer embargo. As it stands at the moment, without shifting players out, they can only bring in 2 players and they have to be free transfers.

I know Lascelles and Darlow are going to Newcastle but they need to listen to any sensible offers for their players. I think we have every chance of getting Mackie for something in the region of £500,000.

Hard to know how to respond, but not wanting to keep more than 3 players seems bizarre. Do you think we'll sign 25 players this summer ?

I mean that whoever we sell I won't be that gutted. A mass shake up is required unfortunately. I trust Clarke to do well this summer. I think he will & if we do sell I'm confident Hammond will get us a good deal as he always does.

Federici
Andersen

Gunter
Obita
New FB
Keown
Pearce
Hector
Ferdinand (Didn't realise it was a two year deal!)
Cooper
On loan CB (To cover if Ferdinand is injured still)

Bring in someone to cover both right and left back if possible. Then use youngsters (Keown) if there are any injuries. Wouldn't mind Ake back for next season. Don't think we will be able to bring Chalobah back.

Williams
Norwood
Karacan (Reduced deal)
New CM / Tshibola
Kuhl
Robson-Kanu
McCleary
New Winger (Able to operate on both flanks)
Stacey

Mackie (Sign up)
Pogrebnyak (no-one will take him)
Cox
Samuel (Hopefully he has pulled himself together. Has shown at Coventry he offers pace and goals. Something we lack.)
New Striker

I think a lot of the above would depend on how much money is available and how ready SC feels the youngsters are.

Out:
Kelly - Wages probably too high. Someone like QPR will probably offer him a one year deal on more money.
Travner - I'm assuming he's not good enough.
Knight - I wouldn't want to see him here next year.
Akpan - Not good enough and too much competition in midfield.
Guthrie - Obviously gone.
Edwards - Maybe to send out on loan to League One.
Taylor - I like him, but don't think he's quite good enough for the Championship. At 23 he needs to be playing games.
Blackman - Hasn't worked out. We need to cut our losses on the £1.2m and recoup whatever we can.
Yakubu - Probably not worth the money he's on to be a sub.

Happy to see a fairly large turnaround of the squad. I'm sure we'll be inundated with Chelsea loanees, and hopefully Clarke has his eyes on one or two quality players. if we can get rid of:
-One of Blackman/Cox (Quite like Blackman but never turned it on for long enough)
-Guthrie
-Yakubu
-Kelly (Good player but can't justify two high-wage right-backs)
-Obita (Could probably get a reasonable fee, need a proper left-back)
-One of Andersen/Feds
-HRK
-Travner & Knight (Unless they've shown something special in training/are on very low wages)
-Two of Taylor, Norwood & Akpan

I'll be happy. Obviously not going to shift Pog this year sadly. Would be fine with one of Williams, Hector and McCleary being sold if the fee allows Clarke to strengthen properly.

Doubt we'll see a total revolution but I wouldn't shocked to see any of the following (if gaps are plugged);

Released
Andersen, Federici, Kelly, Pearce, Knight, Travner, Guthrie, Edwards, Yakubu,

Moved on
Cox/Norwood (Clarke will try?), Ferdinand, Blackman/Robson-Kanu (one of), Taylor,

The others out of contract I'd expect us to keep or think about keeping
Cooper, Karacan, Samuel

Don't know enough about many of the youth guys that are out of contract and where they fit into Clarke's plans, such as Sweeney, Fridjonsson, Williams. Will trust the gaffer and Dolan on that.

Hope we get Ake and Chalobah back, too for a year and Mackie in on a perm. But with it being additions to support the side, rather than us becoming a purely Chelsea reserve team.

That could leave us with a core of
Federici,
Obita, Hector,Gunter, Cooper, Ake,
Karacan, McCleary, Akpan, Williams Chalobah,
Mackie, Pog, Samuel

Subsidised by options from youth in contract where needed
Griffin, Keown, Tshibola, Kuhl, Stacey, Kelly, Fosu, Novakovich, Tanner, Cardwell

A decent core but a lot more needed to be a squad that can challenge.

In on the not really caring who we keep tbf.
