SPECULATION: Andy Williams

by jonesey321 » 02 Jun 2015 10:43

" Swindon Town have released 10 players including top scorer Andy Williams and goalkeeper Wes Foderingham.

Striker Williams, 28, scored 22 goals in 53 appearances this season, having signed for the club in June 2012."

Good goal scorer, possibly pick him up on a free? Could be what we're missing at our ST role - a goalscorer.

He will definitely join someone on a free if he's been released and is over 24.
Can't quite see why Swindon are releasing players, presumably these players have turned down contracts after Swindon failed to get promoted ?

While at Reading may Andy Williams' rained shots keep falling in the net.

I've not seen a hell of a lot of Williams but I remember looking at his goals ages ago (I think he was talked about on here as it happens) and he strikes me as a similar player to Murray or even Lambert (but not as good as either).

We need someone with the ability to lead the line in the way Murray did for us and so if he's available on a free he may well be worth a punt. we might need to get rid of either or both of Robson-Kanu and Blackman, or even Cox, to make room for him but I can't imagine he'd cost a lot in wages to bring down the M4.

He'll probably let in a few goals because he's watching the girls go by, or something.

Could easily see him travelling to Blackburn if they lose Rhodes or Gestede

Can't you get it into your mind that HRK, Blackman and Cox are not leaving as no-one is going to buy them and pay them the kind of salaries they are on?

I seem to recall Swindon are operating on a seriously low budget.
In fact just checked and their budget in 2013 was £4.5m and reduced to £1.8m last season with further cuts threatened for the coming season. Hardly surprising they are having to let players go.

Can't you get it into your mind that they might well pay up or that they might not even have to?

We might structure a deal to loan them out or sell them on with us still covering a proportion of their wages as one option.

HRK might be prepared to take a pay cut if it means going someone and playing - he will have an eye to playing for Wales in the European CHampionships, and he needs to play to get that.

With a squad and manager more in tune with each other then just perhaps we may start to see a better Robson-Kanu next season...

No money. Aim is to cut players wage bill to £1.25 million in total. Williams is from the Di Canio era when players were given silly wages (some were earning £8k a week!). Williams is the last big money earner on the books.

New owner (Power) is using his football contacts to get good youngsters on loan. This year there's been Swift from Chelsea (the new Lampard), along with players from Liverpool, Norwich and Southampton amongst others. The Liverpool lad was Brendan Rodgers son.

When Sherwood was at Tottenham their were 6 players down here. 5 ended up signing for Swindon. Mason has gone on to start for the 1st team last season.

That's Swindon's model now.
