Brian, New Director of football.

by quickwingerswife » 10 May 2016 08:27

4 of us sat in The Diamond Tap,Newbury,Sunday evening, 4 reasonable people. Between us we have about 110 years of following Reading Football Club so we are not just a bunch of rednecks on home cooked meth. After a while some blue sky thinking brought up the idea of Brian promoted to Director of Football, with his gift for spin and vast lists ofcontacts, and a better team manager sitting in the dugout. Someone like Eddie Howe would fit the bill and there must be someone about surely? We all agreed what a good idea.

I'm sure Eddie Howe would jump at the chance to drop a division.

My first reaction to your comment was to say" keep drinking the beer."
However on reflection your comment makes some sense. Brian has the contacts for the job as DOF. It may be that Brians meeting with the Thais this week may be more than about funds available for new players. The Thais also appear to have contacts within Europe and maybe they will ask Brian to step up to DOF and appoint their own foreign manager. Any suggestions for a new foreign manager?

I understand your initial reaction, the beer was helping oil the tracks. I suggested Eddie Howe as a type, not a poach. The Watford manager is under pressure for some unknown reason and I know he is a big hit with home fans, and impressive on the box, not the rubbish spin in defeat like Brian. He would fit fine. He likes to get the ball down and keep it tight at the same time playing some attractive stuff attacking. Could work?

McDonut as DoF, bringing in the likes of Marcus Williams and Hope Akpan. Recipe for success right there.

Yeh I'm sure Quique Flores, the former Valencia, Benfica and Atletico manager would jump at the chance to manage Reading.

It amazes me how the fans that are forever banging on about how oxf*rd awful we are, also have the most absurd expectations of who we could attract.

Mourinho's out of a job right now, why don't we try him?

I agree generalisation about who we could get iis all wrong, all I was stating is the type of manager we could look at. I know as a relatively unfashionable club we will not excite big names. My initial point was that Brian looks a better bet as a Director of Football than a team manager. Now Hammond has gone, let's grab the chance.

This so called rumour is growing legs, have heard via a friend (who works for the Thai's in one of their overseas offices) that Brian may well be offered an alternative role within the club and Bergkamp or Avram Grant are being considered as serious alternatives.

Yeah, but my m8 who works in the Megastore stock room says he's staying put.

Who are you going to believe, the guy who works in the overseas office, or someone who works right at the stadium?
