Luca Fletcher Man City to Ipswich

by Brogue » 01 Sep 2025 11:41

Seems to be a done deal loan to a perm.

I am told we have a sell on of 30%

Assume we don't see that though until the loan expires?

Shame we never got a look at him in the first team. This boy knows where the net is.

Given he was sold during the previous regime, would any potential income generated by a sell on clause be subject to the SPA & make its way back to them?

Sell-on clauses attach to a club, not a holding company. Given how litigious Couhig is i'd be shocked if he'd have let anything different pass.

I understand the clauses relate to the club, I was just wondering about how items such as a potential sell on clause factor into the SPA...

It's one of the complexities of these deals - perhaps it will negate the 'nasty' surprises mentioned by RC discovered post acquisition..

We’ve done incredibly well over sell on fees in recent years. Kept the club afloat

Another win for the academy as well

Perhaps we'll get a cut of any loan fee agreed.

Obviously, we'll never be privy to commercially sensitive details like the deal with Dai, but I'd have thought the easiest deal to manage would have been to pay him a certain proportion of any money they make above an agreed value when they sell the club, in lieu of the debt owed to him by the club. But I wouldn't imagine Dai would make anything straightforward.

Been watching a lot of these CEO interviews. I think the Exeter one said there's a sell-on fee chain keeps going until the player ends up unattached or is involved in a deal doesn't include a sell-on clause.

An example would be:
    Sale 1 - £1m + 30% between Club A and Club B
    Sale 2 - £2m + 20% between Club B and Club C
    Sale 3 - £3m + 10% between Club C and Club D
Club A would've received £600k during Sale 2 (30%) and £180k during Sale 3 (30% of Club B's 20%). They'd receive 30% of Club B's 20% of Club C's 10% for any future sale.

Worth having in mind, as Man City seemingly will have a sell-on and buy back clauses as part of this deal.

What a waste of time Man City buying him was.

Yes we got some money for him and potentially a decent chunk coming as well, but he could've made a fair few senior appearances already.

It makes sense, otherwise clubs could potentially abuse sell on fees to avoid their own pending sell on fee agreements.
