Perhaps more pertinently, where does this leave Sean Davies in the pecking order?

Very true.
I always liked the thought of him or Gary o'Neil at Reading...
Actuslly close to Sidwell replacements.

We really missed a trick O'Neill in the summer.

I know people will say how do you know we didn't get him.

But he signed for Boro, a place he clearly didn't want to go, his gf and kid have stayed in London, if we'd made a serious offer he wouldn't be at Boro now.

That would make more sense than signing Taylor at the moment.

It won't happen unless Shorey goes. Which seems highly unlikely. For no other reason than McCartney is having such a good season.

I've probably misinterpreted you but why would signing Sean Davies be dependent on us selling Shorey?

We were talking about Davies (Davis?)

Still don't think Shorey is necessarily a factor for Taylor either as i just don't think we'd be looking at him as a left back. If Hunt had really been looking for a move and Sunderland (or others?) had met our asking price then that might have been more of a factor.

Is Taylor a left winger? I thought he is right footed for a start?

If you want to improve the squad, then Taylor would be a good fit for us I'd say. Unfortuately, I saw Madejski buying a baguette yesterday afternoon, so that our transfer budget blown until the summer.

He's a left winger or left midfielder more accurately.

Definitely left footed.

Taylor's prob best described as a wing back. Never really established himself as either a full back or out and out winger.

Just can't see Shorey going and hell will freeze over before Coppell lets Hunty go anywhere.

Still Taylor would provide a nice bit of cover.

If we can't find a right winger before the end of the window the Taylor deal would be a lot more appealing too.

No right sided player means Hunt has to stay out on the right. With Convey not quite at it Taylor would strengthen the left side.

He isn't coming here. We wont match the price wanted by Portsmouth apparently.

It'd be a great capture if we could just show that itty bitty ambition we talk of.

What £3m?

Come on!!

Of course we'd pay that money.

If Coppell wanted him and JM wouldn't give him the money he'd be screaming it from the roof tops!!

If we don't sign Taylor it will be because Coppell doesn't want him and we've already disscused why the left side isn't a priority at the moment.

We were only ever in negotiations with Pompey, we never agreed a fee and haven't yet spoken to the player, and it looks less likely we'll return with an improved offer.

Maybe Slinky can support that?

If the left side isn't a priority at the moment (i.e we retain Shorey until at least the summer), why make a bid for the player in the first place? We must rate him, but we obviously don't rate him at the fee required to get him.

Whether he would improve our first team (assuming everyone else stays) is up for debat.....

However, he will improve Bolton so I think we should addopt Football Manager / Chelsea tactics and buy him so others cannot have him

We've coughed up similar fee's for less proven players. Why would we not pay it for a player like Taylor?
