Anyone on here tried reffing a match? Or want to become a Ref for that matter?

Yes, on the former, and its incredibly hard, even at the low level of Oxford collegiate reserve team football.

Sidwell run into box wasn't a pen nor a free kick

Thought Poll had a reasonably good game

Poll most certainly wasn't a disgrace on saturday; Jeez - some people need to get a reality check.

Sure he could have got a card out for the Pederson challenge, and he certainly (imho) should have booked McCarthy for his bambi on ice impersonation - for it being such a BAD dive as much as for anything else, but apart from that I thought Poll had a good game; kept it flowing, communicated well with the players and was even able to have a laugh at the abuse the East Stand was giving Robbie Savage.

Dirk Gently I've got no complaints with Poll, so yes, it is you.

And why the hell didn't he book the Blackburn player for diving after Sonko fell over behind him in the penalty area ?!

because he didn't dive - he was brought down, but only 'cos Sonks fell and clipped him -0 no intent, no penalty, no dive.

check it again, he was fully 5 feet from sonks who slipped, no part of sonko came within a yard of him, and he pretended to leave his leg out in the daftest dive attempt ive ever ever seen

you are very very wrong

AthleticoSpizz
Muskrat No, Poll had a shocker today. He thinks he is the star and not the players and deliberatley courts controversy with some his decisions, which are purely attention seeking vehicles.

We lost to a better team on the day, but Mr Poll was hopeless. Some of his decisions were simply baffling, not to mention just plain wrong.
care to back that up with fact?

think we already have with the hunt incedent, the seol incedent, the sidwell incedent, and the mcarthy dive

we lost cos we were shit, but so was he

Alan Partridge Read 2 pages and seen little mention of Sonko's challenge. The most blatent penalty you will see all season not given in Blackburn's favour, or is it not allowed to see it slightly unbiased?

Poll got 2 things wrong for me, other than that was OK.

Blackburn had a sotnewall penalty when Sonko got rinsed and then dragged the guy down

And when Hunt I think was going through, there was a foul and should have been a free kick but was given their way! :?

you are wrong too, check out the replays, worse dive of the season, by a mile and 3/4

i thought it was a pen from the north stand at the time though

West Stand Man Muskrat, have you seen a replay of the Sonko incident with McCarthy. It was neither a dive nor was it a penalty. It was a good honest accident that involved one player falling forwards.

As to the other 'incidents' that you refer to, Poll was well up with play and a hell of a lot closer to them that you or me. I have a strong suspicion that he knows and understands the laws better than either of us. So, when it comes to deciding who was most probably right in his judgement who do you think I'll go with?

It is so easy to criticise the referee when you are not in extra-sensorial contact with him and have no idea what he has considered in making his call.

Oh and while I am at it, he disallowed the goal on the advice of his assistant. We advise people by giving them advice. See the subtle difference!

??????!!!!!

cant believe someone who has seen replays reckons it wasnt a dfive, thats just mental

West Stand Man Anyone with more than half a brain who has seen the incident on TV will see that there was contact between Sonko's foot and McCarthy's that resulted in McCarthy's ankles clashing. McCarthy may well have accentuated the fall, but to call it a dive is laughable. It was accidental contact and that is that, no pen, no dive.

absolutely no contact whatsoever, he was 5 ft away

Mind you, I've heard that being a brain surgeon is pretty hard too and people don't tend to tolerate them making too many mistakes!

From my experience, being an Assistant Referee (linesman in old language) is even harder than being a ref - I believe some scientific research undertaken by a university has shown it is bordering on the impossible for a human to assimilate all of the information required to make consistently reliable decisions on offside e.g. the relative positions of all players at the time the ball is played, particularly when you take into account the way that viewing angles can distort their respective positions. Still doesn't stop me bawling at the lino though!

As for Saturday, I have to hold my hands up and say that I thought Poll had made a big mistake in not awarding them a penalty but tv footage has shown he was absolutely correct.

One big question though; why no yellow card awarded to the cheat? Was he afraid he might lose count?!!

Apart from the others who agree with me, yes I am on my own!

Interestingly the Sky team all agreed with me yesterday; or I suppose to be more accurate, I agreed with them.

I'll stick to the facts for a moment (a rare commodity on here). There was clear contact between Sonko and McCarthy. McCarthy fell (somewhat dramatically). You can have your interpretation of guilt or otherwise, I'll have mine. Veterans of HNA will know that I have a superiority complex, based solely on my superiority. Hence my view is correct.
