Very harsh. That was a doozy of a shot that barely missed. The whole tone of the Times piece is far too negative. Reading, in particular, produced a lot more attacking football than it implies. it's a mistake to think the sum total of a team's attacking can be captured by the number of shots. Also, in a game where the defences flourished, how come so many defenders get 5 for their efforts. Articles like this aren't journalism, they're masturbation. The Sunday Times March Gary O’Neil was presented with another long-range shooting chance after Gary Johnson’s searching free kick was nodded down by Kanu, but again the effort was no more than speculative and ended high of the target.

Arch If the journos think our game was lacking in entertainment, what will they make of Villa-Liverpool. I'm crying with boredom at the moment.

Gordons Cumming I thought Coppell's comments after the match were a little hypocritical critizising Redknapp's tactics of playing counter attacking football.

Platypuss Agree with the fact that we didn't get a single shot on target all game.
Must have had 10 corners though.

So if Lita's very early shot wasn't going in, why didn't James let it go out for a goalkick, rather than sticking a hand out and conceding a corner?
I counted that as a shot on target but admit it was something of a rarity!

We play attacking football all out. We don't sit back, let them attack us and then boot it up the pitch to a tall forward who can run at the two defenders left at the back. Which is basically what pompey were trying to do, and it makes for extremely boring football.

Portsmouth were counter attacking with the ball at their feet as I recall.

I must have imagined those long searching balls that were intercepted by our defenders then.

Gordons Cumming Don't youme.
They were counter attacking with the ball at their feet a number of times and not just launching it up to Kanu.
