New England Manager

by rodnich » 29 Mar 2007 13:21

Steve McClaren signed a new deal at Boro before he became the England manager as he and Boro knew the Muppets at the FA would handsomley buy him out of his contract.

Steve Coppell has just signed a new two year contract which is unusual as he has said he would only sign 1 year contracts? Am I putting 2 and 2 together and getting 3?

i do hope so.
firstly the muppets in charge of the FA arent intelligent enough to pick the best man for the job,
secondly as we all know, im not sure SSC would even accept it (though im not ruling it out completely)

He might accept a caretaker role along the lines of Ron Greenwood back in the early/mid 70's. Safe pair of hands on the rudder until a permanent candidate could be found?

Steve Nichol isnt doing too bad a job. They've managed to get to the final of the MLS cup for the past two seasons (although they have lost on both occasions)

Big Sam will be the next England boss, but maybe some people are forgetting that there already is someone in the hot seat, England will qualify for the finals so I would imagine it will be over 2 years before England are looking for a new boss

I certainly hope not, the sooner the second of the chuckle brothers slings his hook the better.

I certainly hope we don't get corrupt Meatloaf in charge of our national side, I'm not sure if that would be any better. Coppell won't take the job it's too much of a media circus and thankless poisoned chalice

I think Big Sam would be a decent candidate for the job but I do wonder if Coppell could actually turn down the job if it were offered to him.

Despite all the rubbish that goes on around the job it has to be a massive challenge to take on, one that he'd find hard to turn down. Remember that he didn't really want to leave Brighton to come to Reading but felt it was too good an opportunity to say no to. I just get the feeling that even though it's not a job that would sit easily with him he might not be able to turn it down if it became a possibility.

Steve said when he signed the deal that he would have preferred to sign it at the end of the season to avoid any fuss.

I don't think, bearing that in mind, Steve Coppell is ever going to be England manager.

So Arsene, would you rather carry on what you are doing with a large pool of extremely talented players everyone of which has been selected by you and owes you complete and utter loyalty or do you want the England job ?
