Penalty Appeal?

by Man Friday » 08 Apr 2007 17:08

Am I the only one who thought that we should have had a penalty in the first half when a Liverpool defender appeared to hand ball it in his own area? (They're given against us but never for us.)

Yeah, they're never given For us, especially against the top clubs.

Just ask Garry Neville!

One-off. Always an exception to the rule, that proves the rule.

If you're referring to the trip by Reina, the side-on view on MOTD showed a clear and blatant trip.

Not saying it was intensional though

I reckon he was just waiting for him to make content before going down very easily. Was never going to make the ref point to the spot with that effort.

Yet the majority of pens come about by people waiting for contact and going down. So long as there is clear contact then it seems to be accepted somewhat.

At least he waited for contact unlike the likes of Gerrard who just plain dive

It can all depend on the refs view also.
Correct me if i'm wrong but wasn't Walton square on to the incident? So probably didn't have the best view to be "100% certain"

...but did anyone see the handball? They didn't show it on MOTD but that's par for the course.

Wasn't a deliberate handball, but probably could have moved his hand out of the way. Had we got it, Liverpool fans would be biting the ref's head off as we did against Tottenham. Some things go for you, some don't!
