Best Kingsley Royal moments

by Ollie » 18 Apr 2007 17:19

Hi all,

I was wondering if you have any particularly good memories of the mascot, Kingsley Royal, that you'd like to share. Goal celebrations, on-pitch antics, whatever it is you remember.

If anything stands out in the mind, pop it down here since I'm in the process of writing up a feature for the web.

Note: this is not the place for anti-lion ranting. If you bear a grudge against a seven foot cuddly lion, you can air grievances in this thread. This one is for positive comments.

Hey Ollie!

The best has to be when Kingsly ran and dived on the old coca-cola mats after we scored.

Also a memory was when he got 'sent off' for handling the ball.

You might be interested in doing something on how Kingsly has changed his look over the past few years.

Murts flattening him has got to be up there - and especially when his "head" came off.

Can I nominate him kicking the shit out of the Middlesbrough mascot in the Hokey Cokey quarter final in 1998?

Had the Southbank in fits. Great stuff.

Why? Are BFM going to get Kingsley in on Tim's show on Friday or are you planning a This Is Yuor Life style expose in the close season?

You could always tell when there was going to be a penalty shoot-out between King and whatever other mascot was there cos at half time he'd come out with proper football boots on instead of the clown shoes he normally wears. That would result in him blasting all his shots past someone who could barely see let alone move and getting 100% while the opponent, kitted out in clown boots, would basically kick the ball like a 3 year old and King could just scope up the shot.

Question for Kingsley - Why have you stopped entering the Mascot Grand National?

Worse Kingsley moment was when he was play fighting before one game and pretended to go down, He was on the ground for quite some time not moving and after about 15 minutes when the team were out of the tunnel a number of us in the stands were actually concerned he might have been in need of urgent medical attention and was being ignored by officials because he was a big fury lion. Just as I went to speak to a steward though he got up.

:D loads of fun!!

even more special about the camel was the 2 people in the costume trying to run up to the ball in time with each other

As it turned out he was indeed just lion down.

Was at Stoke a fair few seasons ago - when Kingsley was having a bit of banter with their pink hippo (whatever that was called) mascot. It ended with Kingsley giving him the best put down you could in front of a stand of RFC fans - he pulled his tail through his legs and thrust his pelvis forward as if to say "suck this you big pink gayer"

What about Kingsley's imitation this season of an opposition player diving (I think it was Diouf of Bolton) in front of the West Stand. One of the funniest moments this season.

Funny, but not sure it's quite what Auntie Beeb is looking for.

Taking all of the football mascots H'Angus the Monkey sounds like the most interesting. The best Kingsley moment ever must be when Murty got him after the penalty.

Northampton away a few years back. Kingsley's thrown the ball into the crowd, turned away for a split second and when he turns back, the ball's been thrown straight back on him and hit him square on the face.

PRICELESS

On the subject of mascots, are they banned from going to away games these days?

I believe Kingsley is required to report to the nearest police station on away match days and as from next season will be required to surrender his passport.
