The Run-In

by ScottishRoyal » 22 Apr 2007 17:09

Right then, whilst bored and hungover I decided to knock this up...

Everton (GD+15)
Man Utd (h)
Portsmouth (h)
Chelsea (a)

Bolton (GD-3)
Chelsea (a)
West Ham (a)
Aston Villa (h)

Reading (GD+6)
Newcastle (h)
Watford (h)
Blackburn (a)

Tottenham (GD-1)
Middlesborough (a)
Charlton (a)
Blackburn (h)
Manchester City (h)

Portsmouth (GD+5)
Liverpool (h)
Everton (a)
Arsenal (h)

Blackburn (GD-7)
Charlton (h)
Newcastle (a)
Tottenham (a)
Reading (h)

5 Everton 35 10 4 3 28 13 4 8 6 18 18 15 54
6 Bolton 35 9 4 5 24 18 7 2 8 18 27 -3 54
7 Reading 35 10 2 5 28 18 5 4 9 20 24 6 51
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
8 Tottenham 34 11 2 4 31 20 3 6 8 18 30 -1 50
9 Portsmouth 34 10 4 3 26 14 3 6 8 17 24 5 49
10 Blackburn 34 8 2 7 24 21 5 3 9 18 28 -7 44
n.b Before Villa Pompey game finished

I think that Blackburn are too far adrift and that Pompeys run-in means that they won't be able to better the results of the sides that currently occupy the UEFA spots so it looks like three teams from four...

Spurs and ourselves have the easiest finishes, if Portsmouth don't win today we're in with a great shout

each place being worth (about) half a £million to the club

and some of our players wages being about the same

We have every chance ...and no reason not to finish in the top 7

Villa, City and Newcastle right on Blackburn's heels (albeit with a match in hand for the last), Boro four points behind Blackburn, and from there only four points back to Fulham at the head of the relegation scrum...and yet here we are kicking around Blackburn's prospects for a top-seven finish --and not at all wrongly so.
