Alan Bennett

Hi guys,

A freind of mine runs a Cork City FC fanzine called IWOTO, you can find out more about it at http://www.iwoto.com

For the next issue in a few weeks, he's looking for contributions from supporters of clubs which Cork City players have joined.

For example, he has a Motherwell fan to write and Danny Murphy and an Ipswich fan to write about George O'Callaghan and how they've got on since they left Cork City.

We're looking for a generous Reading fan to write a piece about Alan Bennett?? Any takers?! I understand he's only figured in reserve games so those who attend Reading reserve games would know about him and how he's doing best!

If you are interested, send me a PM!

Thanks in advance,
Trevor.

It was only ever "promised" by the loacl paper in Cork - never promised by Cork City or RFC.

It was Alan Bennett who said that their was a friendly arranged.

Our manager Damien Richardson also said at a recent fans forum that their was a verbal agreement in place for a friendly with Reading but no date had yet been set.

Sunderland are coming to Cork on July 31st.

To be fair I think anyonee will find it hard to write much about him, he's played a few reserve games in which he's been making up for not having played for 6 months so even those who have seen him play (which i have) can;t really make a sound judgement.

If you want a short piece then I'm happy to put something together, but it will be short and it probably won;t contain too many dramatic revelations !

He's a central defender
He's from Cork
We only bought him to appease the board at Cork
He will go out on loan to a League 1 or 2 club next season
He will leave us having not played a single game

Will that do you?

points 1-2 accurate
points 3-5 i will wager you different

hes been good in the reserves, and has looked pretty assured in recent games,
shame he couldnt start one 1st team game before the end of the season, but im sure he'll be in or around th esquad for the start of next season

i have it on good authority that he's been toilet in the reserves and is nowhere near the first team.

i am looking forward to Bikey and Sonko at CB next season

Having watched him a couple of times in the reserves your good authority is very wrong. He has played very well when I've seen him. Not sure he'll be challenging for a spot though.

Agreed.

I think he's done ok without ever looking a class above the rest of the team. He's added a bit of depth and is another cheap gamble but I can't really see him pushing for the first team judging on his displays so far.

He look's a step up from Brown though so you could say thats progress.

Try going and watching yourself then !

He's been steady although I wouldn;t say spectacular.

Currently must rank behind Sonks, Ivar, Duberry and Bikey and fighting with Pearce for the 5th spot. Mate, Brown and Sodje currently unplaced !

yes yes yes,,,get to see the reserves more often blah blah blah. however i rate my friends judgement.

i take your point about Ivar, however I feel that a Bikey/Sonko pairing will be more dynamic and very very tough to beat. I'm not knocking Ivar at all, but it'll be up to him to prove me wrong and if he does then that's even better.

bennet must be 5th choice at best and you do have to wonder why we purchased.

"yes yes yes,,,get to see the reserves more often blah blah blah. however i rate my friends judgement."

i dont.
in fact he sounds like one of the nobs that always piss me off when i watch reading

ive seen 3 reserve games this year, (along with my usual 3 cup games, and 2 away trips!)
and hes been pretty decent, in an ever changing back 4.

"bennet must be 5th choice at best and you do have to wonder why we purchased."

becuase we needed cover, he was incredibly cheap, and people from the club had a look at him and thought he could make the grade

if he doesnt make it weve lost nowt,
but doobs and Ivar will be making way over the next two years so we'll need replacements -give the guy a chance before writing him off, he looks a solid aquisition

Have to say though your friend is probably wrong - Bennett certainly has not been toilet !

He's a low risk gamble - if he develops then we have a good player for little money, if he doesn't then we'll sell him on. We'll have known plenty about him and I doubt the club had many concerns about his ability and character.

Not sure what Ivar has to do to prove you wrong - he's been our star this season and if that doesn't convince you then you aren;t up for persuading !

If you play Bikey and Sonks together you will get a very tough pair but also lots of mistakes and no calm head to tidy up. I think Sonks and Bikey would be a disaster personally - they both need a 'mentor' alongside them and Ivar does that job.

Much like original reports on Kevin Doyle and Shane Long then?
