Why didnt we enter Intertoto Cup?????????

by riverroyal » 14 May 2007 12:45

Why didnt we enter the Intertoto? We are playing silly games in July anyway so may has well have played these sides and got a shot at UEFA Cup!
Seems a great shame. Just hope we do it next season!

This was taken off BBC website:
Blackburn have the chance to qualify for the Uefa Cup via the Intertoto Cup.
Final-day Premiership results meant Rovers qualified for a two-legged tie in late July against either Llanelli, FK Vetra of Lithuania or a Polish team.
Victory would send Rovers, who finished the season in 10th place, into the Uefa Cup's second qualifying round.
Tottenham and Bolton had also entered the Intertoto Cup but last-day results led to them qualifying directly for the Uefa Cup, along with Everton.[/quote]

Coppell out!

I for one am glad we didn't enter it. A complete waste of time that will stretch our squad too far.

Totally disagree. Not a waste of time at all.

We could have easily beaten the sides listed in the BBC report on who Blackburn have drawn. . . instead we play Brighton, Didcot, Brentford!

meaningless friendlies then come home; would rather have been in Intertoto and UEFA Cup.

Something to do with a prestigious tournament in Korea in mid July perhaps?

Plus I believe you have to apply for the InterToto Cup some time before the end of the season and the club didn't really believe they'd be troubling the top 5 or 6 places.

Fair enough. I'd rather play some world class sides than mess around against the 3rd placed Albanian side or the champions of Sark.

IMHO The Intertoto could've been an ideal platform for our U18's and reserve squad to warm-up for the Carling and FA Cup challenges next season.

Still, God said otherwise.

Anyone also get the impression that Mr Mad definitely wants us playing in Asia. Quite a good shop window for him and he has plenty of business dealings over there with people with large amounts of cash!

I might be putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5, but..........

probably more money to be made selling shirts and other rights out there than we would hve made in the intertoto cup/uefa cup

I'd have thought the potential for selling shirts is tiny.

You can buy replicas for about 50p so why would people spend £40 on 'official' shirts !
