To be honest, I know nothing of Alan Judge, only that he went off to Oxford. Would I be right in thinking that he was part of the Division 4 championship team back in the early eighties? Is he worthy of inclusion in the vote, people of Hob Nob???

The shortlist is gonna be: *DRUM ROLL*

1. Hislop
2. Hahnemann
3. Death
4. Francis
5. Whitehead
6. Westwood
7. Hammond
8. Mautone

Sorry to Judge, Wright or Leighton, the last two had more nominations and I'm keen to put out the poll before the weekend - voting will be until Monday midday.

Won't this end up like the "100 Greatest.... " on Channel 4 or the Top 500 on Virgin Radio where their listeners voted Snow Patrol's Chasing Cars the best song of all times??

Current choices always win because for the majority of people that's all they know. I bet for every one on Hobnob who remembers Steve Death, there'll be 50 who've only ever seen Marcus.

Yes, I'm afraid it's gonna be like that. I did try to ask for nominations of older players, but it's not gonna work.

We'll have to wait and see if it goes the same way as the poll I did a few years ago.

1.) Hahnemann
2.) Hislop
3.) Death

Hahnemann got us to the premiership, which is the greatest feat for a keeper in Reading history. Hislop and Death are close, but I put Hislop higher because of what he did in the premiership after us, which is probably the wrong reason to put him there.

Anyway, this is a pretty awesome thread. I approve.

Not looking like it at the moment with Hahnemann on a rather unfair 2 votes. Sad to See Shaka over take Death, but he ws a great 'keeper so won't complain

SpaceCruiser Ok, to get the ball rolling in voting our greatest RFC XI, nominate the goalkeepers who have played for Reading FC over the years. I am guessing that we'll all want to see Neil "Shaka" Hislop, Steve Death and Marcus Hahnemann in the vote. That probably leaves 5 other places to fill. So, debate away and hopefully we'll have 8 nominations by the end of today and I can set up a poll for the weekend.

Go!

That seems 3 good choices, but I would like to nominate George Marks, who played in the Ted Drake era when the team was never far from the top of the league.

George was a good keeper and didn't leave the club, as he joined the coaching staff when he stopped playing He died in 1998 (I think).

1) he had a crap wig
2) he pretended to be injured the whole time because we lied about playing at Wembley
3) he wasn't very good when he actually got on the pitch
4) Jimmy Quinn was better in goal when he came on for an injured Wiggy against Bolton.

Wasn't it against WBA - or was that another time?
