Stranded Just spotted your Brum are plotting to win things quoting the signings of Phillips and Carsley (two 35 yo free transfers) as proof. Those players are short term replacements for Muamba and Forsell who they have already lost this summer.

McFadden has been linked with moves also over the summer.
Pure genius! Gone from the team that were worse than us last year - Forssell, Muamba, Zarate, probably Kapo. Linked at least as loudly with departure as any of our players - McFadden, Larsson. In Phillips (34), Carsley (34), possibly M. Bent (32). Now any of those last three may do a damn fine job this coming year, no doubt. But to tout Birmingham as a club whose dealings show long term ambition is idiocy.

I haven't done it in a huff - Igoing then renewed in the past when we dropped down divisions and didn't stop , I just don't want to go and pump money into a club where the manager isn't sure he wants the job and isn't driving (or attempting to drive) the club forward in the right way.

Do I hear the sound of growing noses here?

When was our last relegation? 1998?

How old were you then? If, as you have stated in another thread that you went to "uni"(sic) after a couple of years in a crap job, I reckon that you're no older than 23-25. Must have been one hell of paper round for you to afford a season ticket (even if it was at Elm Park prices).

I know that I'm naive and have spent far too much time and money following a generally dead loss of a club, but if you think that Reading is badly lead, then, as a previous poster said you should try following a club like Luton, or Wrexham,or Leeds.

When the going gets tough (?) Lee fcuks off.

It'll get even tougher by the end of the season, by which time I expect I'll be back.

In a word, no.

Our manager is one of those who doesn't do his club business via the media, but he does the Club PR he needs to and he's actually quite media-friendly when it concerns the salient issues in the game, his profession after all.

No, not depressed, just standard pessimism and new season nerves, that's all. It's always been the same, just heightened this year because of our ( briefly, very) elevated status and the availability of so many media platforms to play the thing out on. We've never "known" as much about other teams' squads, let alone their unsettled stars, war chests, wish-lists, bids-in-preparation etc.

Cry havoc and let slip the Dodds of transfer speculation!

Royalee
Roger the Rabbit It's a sunny day, we've lost one player from our squad, there is a month to go before the season starts, our last two games have been victories averaging 6.5 goals to nil, Royalee is slowly disappearing into a cloud of steam - what is there to be depressed about !!!

You could be a Luton fan after all ....

I'm not going anywhere, I'll just be here to say I told you so before coming back to show the club support when a proper leader takes over.

Rubbish. Coppell is a proper leader. He is intelligent, passionate, knowledgable, humorous, level-headed and I suspect he doesn't suffer fools which is bad news for you Royalee

Excellent points Faith Healer, especially about media platforms - that is why people get so wound up about lack of transfer dealings by their club these days. There was a time (not so long ago!) when SSN & the Internet didn't exist you know!!

Define sh*t. Anything less than automatic promotion? I thought your pessimism last season was based on reality. If not, I guess those really are STG you wear.

Boring. It's just the same old bunch year after year, thread after thread saying the same old stuff.

As I've pointed out before it is in their nature to be pessimistic and there's nothing that can be done about it. For a year and a half they probably took some unexpected enjoyment from supporting RFC but now they are obviously delighted to be back in their comfort zone.

As for depressed? Do me a favour you numpty!

Just teasing really, hence the emoticon used. If we keep hold of the likes of Kitson, Doyle, Lita, Matejovsky & Bikey for next season then we have the basis of a very good squad for Championship level, so hopefully Nick(y) Hammond has disconnected the phone and fax machine. Add to that the likes of Long, Harper, Ingimarsson, Sonko and Rosenior who will all be easily good enough for this division then the outlook for success in the Championship in the new season looks reasonably bright in all honesty.

The way I'm dealing with this depressing situation is to not think about football again until the first ball is kicked against Forest.

The less I think about this incredibly depressing situatuion the easier it is to handle!

I'm actually losing faith in English Football altogether now. I can no longer see the point in it. Television and Money has ruined the beautiful game. Its turned the players in to t*ssers! I'd be quite happy for all our players to F*ck off! I'ts going to be difficult to support the same moaning, whinging, selfish, money obssessed w*nkers again!

And its not just our players: Ronaldo, Hleb & Adebayor are also acting in the same self obssessed, disrespectful manner towards English football.

The English game is not what it once was. Its losing its charm and appeal.

Can you imagine supporting the pr*cks that wear the Arsenal shirt?
Now I'm finding it hard to imagine supporting the pr*cks that wear the Reading shirt.

I've renewed my season ticket for the sake of the club. Not its players. But I'm gonna find it hard to support the tw*ts the wear the hoops next season. I wish they'd all F*ck off and find new clubs! They have no respect for the fans! English Football as a whole has lost all respect for the fans.

I might find a new hobby like paragliding or something!

Crowthorne Royal

This brings me to my final point. Scott Carson the England No.1 goalkeeper(arguably)

Lol at you thinking Carson is Englands no.1. He's got 2 caps and is shite.

Agree with a lot of what you say about players/attitude, not necessarily ours (personally I feel that we have some players that do care about our club...or would at least appear to, Murts, Harps, Ivar etc...) kinda hit home the other day when watching the masters on Sky. Looking at some of the 'older' players took me back a few years to a much happier time of football watching.

Seeing players such as Jason Lee (master  ) linking up with Ian Woan and Steve Stone took me back to an age where footballers weren't arrogant little pr*cks but had 'character' about them, there are no 'Razor' Ruddocks any more...remember Jeremy Goss hitting a screamer for Norwich against Bayern Munich and running off with genuine happiness...these days any goal is met with £ signs appearing in the players eye balls thinking about their goal bonus and nothing else.

Well, no surprise at most people's responses. It sounds like Royalee and me are a minority and actually Royalee doesn't normally agree with me either !!

What I will say to the usual RTG resoponders is this ;

I've no doubt that you are the same people that last season believed in your own and the medias hype of 'Reading will be fine'.
Even towards the end of our poor season that ended in a COMPLETELY AVOIDABLE relegation you'll have been crowing about 'keeping the faith', 'Have you had a look at the league table', 'We used to be a League 1 club you know', 'Trust Sir Steve' etc, etc.

Your blind faith in RFC is naiive.

And finally, for the record 'Stranded' are you a plastic ? - Because comments like 'Your football team should not have such a big effect on you, so as to make you depressed' (or similar) are written by someone who obviously doesn't hurt when we lose at home to Watford and feel unbridled joy when we win away at Preston

With some of the comments on here, parachuting without a parachute sounds like a good idea.

Just think, things will get worse before they get better as well. Oh what a joyous time it will be on here when we sell one of our stars and before we sign a replacement.

I don't know how half the people on here can carry-on living in such a depressed state.

Cheer up dear, it's only football....
