itsn't it obvious ?

We've never won F*k all
We've never won F*k all
etc..

Seems to work quite well with the Welsh calling themselves sheep shaggers - getting it in first completely ruins the effectiveness of the opposition singing it.

There is a difference between the written and spoken versions of the language.
Use of a double negative in written English is poor practice, and can be said to be ungrammatical. However in spoken (or indeed chanted) English it is commonly acceptable.
Yours sincerely

No, not commonly acceptable but commonly used (wrongly of course).
This not as much fun as talking about RFC - but what the hell, I can cope with it. You too can go for some lessons in grammar and then come back for another joust.

Lessons in grammar are not required by me, thank you.
It is all about communication. If you hear some street-urchin saying "I ain't got none", you understand that he (or she) is not in possession of a particular item or commodity. It isn't grammatically correct, as it is a double negative, but it conveys the meaning, and that is most important. English is a living, changing language, so let us treat its rules with respect, but also understand when new rules are evolving.

Anyway, "You've never won f**k all" is a tedious chant, but mostly accurate.
Turning it round to "We've never won f**k all" and singing it back even louder would be particularly effective when we are winning a game!

that's not grammar, it's semantics, ie the intention carried in a word uttered by the user. so gramatically you're talking shit.

I just love jousting with half wits who defend the indefensible because they don't know any better. When you can speak and write grammatical English return for another bout of jousting. Until then - byeeee.

That will be at about the same time you learn how to quote properly, then?

Who knows, maybe or maybe not. :D

Does anyone know of a discussion board that is focussed on Reading FC, because I am looking for one. This grammar stuff is fun but not really what I want on a Friday!

Shaka's Giant Hands
Slightly Hungover Always makes me smile when opposition fans sing this at us given that it's a double negative so, in fact, they are implying we've won lots of things.

Despite wracking my brains, I've yet to think of a witty reply though. Can't imagine singing 'That's a double negative...' to have much of an impact. Any ideas?

We've won it one time,
We've won it one timeeeee,
The Simod Cup
We've won it one time.

Could be adapted to:

The Cup,
We won the Simod Cup,
We won the Simod Cup,
etc...
