5 - 2

by londinium » 04 Mar 2009 22:51

5 is how many times Brum have scored in either the last 5 minutes of a game or in injury time this season to gain either 1 or 3 points.

2 is how many times we have done it.

I know it isn't a marked difference and 5 really isn't a huge amount of times, and I know that the game lasts 90 mins plus injury time and it is no different scoring in the first minute or the last minute..they all count....but......

It just seems like they do it all the time, although they don't.... and it makes me sick!!!... I so hate Brum

On a side note... from a weekend when the top 6/8 struggle to mid week when they all win except Britol and Preston so we are basically where we started after Saturdays games with one game less to play.

I'm not sure that that is a good thing...i guess it gives the chasing pack less chance of catching us but makes our 2 games in hand of Wolves and Scum even more important.

Can you extend that to 10 minutes? so from the 80th onwards please? That might make an interesting comparison.

If we keep racking up on the goal difference this could be vital come the end of the season. True Brum are either lucky feckers or playing to a cute master plan.

bar the game with us, Brum have their solid defence to thank this season so far, if thats the way the want to do it then fair play. As for late goals, poss says something for their fitness??

You wanna be careful saying that. I got laughed at when I said they had a good defence in another forum. But their record defensively is certainly impressive.

All I have to say is - Dear God don't leave us needing any sort of result at home to Brum on the last day

In the last 10 mins Brum is still 5 as they havent score an important goal between the 80th and 84th minute

Ours moves up to 5 as we have scored 3 important goals in the same period.

I guess that levels it up but doesn't lessen my hate for Brum though!!!!!!

Cheers Londinium. I wasn't expecting that. Perception certainly says they've sneaked loads of late wins or draws.

Brum have picked up 8 points with result changing 80+ minute goals.
RFC have picked up 4.
Not much difference.

Reading got an 87th minute pen at Watford to grab 2-2 (Thanks Shane for winning the pen), two goals in the last six minutes to beat Norwich,(thanks to Shane for winning the penalty 2 minutes after he came on, and then scoring himself two minutes later) a NINETY-SIXTH MINUTE goal to draw with Cardiff, and 84th minute goal (Thanks Shane) to get 1-1 at Southampton and an 81st minute winner (Thanks Shane) at Sheffield Wednesday

I make that SEVEN points grabbed at the death, and I fancy Fedders goal must be the latest points-winner?

1 2-2 WATFORD 87th
2 2-0 NORWICH 84 & 86th
1 1-1 CARDIFF 96th
1 1-1 SAINTS 84th
2 2-1 WEDNESDAY 81st

Yeah, it's all a bloody conspiracy isn't it, all down to bloody luck  . Is it balls.....Birmingham have a squad packed with quality for this level and quite frankly should never have been relegated in the first place with the money they invested on players in the last couple of years (how much did they pay for Jerome, McSheffrey, McFadden etc?). The spine of their team (when fit and ready to play) is outstanding at this level and better than ours I fear; Taylor in goal - Ridgewell - Carsley - Phillips, all proven Premier League players. Unfortunately for them they have Alex McLiesh in charge  !

'greed - Brum conceded 31, RFC conceded 30 - admittedly from two fewer (doffs cap to Dirk) games

I wish I had a tenner for every time someone mentioned this perceived quality of Brums.

Why has all this quality resulted in so many poor performances and the need for so many last ditch efforts from Kevin Phillips?

Ask most Brum fans and I don't "quality" comes very high on their list of adjectives to describe their teams performances this season.

Last night was one of their better displays but the commentaors were saying that they have an ageing squad containing many big names who just haven't lived up to expectations. Unlike us they have spent heavily but the return on their investment is not looking great right now and much rebuilding will be required should they gain promotion.

They deserved to win last night but their defense was far from solid and would have conceded had BC converted a number of good chances.
