Is it my fault?

by rhroyal » 04 May 2009 00:15

I seem to be something of a bad omen for Reading in crunch games. In games where it doesn't matter (well obviously they all matter, but it's not do or die) I'm quite a lucky charm. There for Boro, Liverpool, 1-1 v Man U, beating Spurs 3-1. However here's the list of big games since I've been properly following the club (about 2000):

Wigan in play-off semi. Dramatic late win. I'm at home listening on the radio, sulking because my Dad didn't take me.
Walsall - At Cardiff. 'Nuff said.
Peterboro - There. (2002)
Brentford - Couldn't get ticket. (2002)
Wolves semi - There (2003)
Wolves (when we blew 6th place) - there (2005)
Leicester - couldn't get ticket (2006)
Derby - At home with flu :( (2006)
Fulham - there (2008)
Sheff Utd - there (2009)
Brum - there (2009)

I should also add that for January-June 2007, our best ever spell in the Premiership, I was in India with all the results such as 6-0 v West Ham happening whilst I was away.

I've always wanted to be there for us to clinch promotion or secure survival, but you will notice a very bad correlation between games I attend and games we're successful in. The bad news is I plan to go the Burnley first leg (although not the 2nd, Leeds to Reading is a long way on a Tuesday night) and the final if we make it. I don't want to miss out on the celebrations again, like in 2002 and in 2006. Am I being selfish?

As you have shown scant disregard for the team's fortunes in recent years, you should take one for the team, and go to the North Pole until the playoffs are done and dusted.

I also wore my unlucky Reading shirt today so I am as much a culprit. I will be wearing the lucky Reading shirt for both Burnley games so will be able to cancel out some of your bad luck for them.

It is definitely your fault. What were you thinking, coming today! You are a disgrace to the name of Reading Football Club.

Would you be willing to swap allegiances for about 10 days? Let me send you a claret and blue scarf and a ticket for the Burnley end.

It is partly my old man's fault as well.

Every time he watches us play we lose. He is an armchair fan and only watches in the pub. He told me yesterday he was not going to watch it and I was to update him with the scores by text. I thought I would give him a quick call at half time to find out he was in the Social Club watching the game! I told him to get the hell out of there which he did but it was too late

Don't worry, I'll have the lucky shirt on and will thus cancel out your bad luck.

Snowball will tell you that it's a statistical anomaly which will even itself out over more matches. Which means of course that if you go to Burnley we now have a better chance of winning!

Er, I think so anyway

i informed the club of this fact and got the following reply:
Reading FC Following the recent revalations concerning a certain 'rhroyal' have now banned him (or her) from attending any Reading Fooball Club matches, home, away or especially at wembley.
From all of us at Reading Football Club, we would like to thank you for bringing this to our attention and as a token of good faith, please accept this offer to play in center midfield for us during our play-off run, possibly to be followed by an offer of a 5 year contract with us.
Many thanks,
Sir John Robert Madejski OBE DL

Nicholas David Hammond

Stephen James Coppell

Unfortunately, i have my university exams coming up over the next month or so, so couldn't commit to RFC :(

I have been to turd moor at least 4 times and seen us win every time. I am not going this time so you can blame me when we lose.
