LOL @ anyone who thinks Harding could do a job at LM. Slow and crap on the ball are 2 charcteristics which we had with SHunt and we do not want a repeat.

Ian Royal wrote: I'd keep Fed and offload Hahnemann if I could find another decent keeper. (Hamer?) Yep
Rosenior, and one of (possibly both) Doobs and Ivar to go. Probably keep Murty for experience Would keep Rosy, Ingi and Doobs Murts can go - would be happy to have Armstrong and Harding as back up. Bikey despite being very good can go if we get the right offer
Let Cisse, Gunnarsson, Kebe, Little all go. We've probably got enough in central midfield to cope without even replacing them. I would keep Gunnar for his footballing brain - I thought he was great in both playoff legs. I think Kebe is important for us and will do well next year with less pressure on him
Kitson, Lita, and unfortunately Doyle all to go. Kitson and Lita to go by choice - Doyle to be let go as he is better than this level

See above for who I would keep.

Rosy (unwillingly but through necessity) Armstrong, Doobs, Pearce, Ingi, Tabb, Gunnarsson, Karacan, Sigurdsson, Henry, Long, Nhunt.

That's the core I would go for. We need experience and youth to go hand in hand. Everyone else I would get rid of.

Northern Git
Elliott
RG30 We'll have to balance out the books, and he's our best asset.

Balance out the books!?! I would love to know just how much profit the club has made in the last 3 years.

Me as well. In Coppells last two interviews he said along the lines of 'the clubs made alot of money both from transfers and from the league (tv)'. Our annual report and accounts are noticable by their absence.

With respect, accounts and reports are readily available if you know where to look and have even appeared on this very site in the past. :|

Firstly, my mind is changing on this by the second, but currently I'd like to keep a core squad of:

Federici, Hamer
Kelly
Armstrong, Harding (I've been converted, good display aginst Burnley [1st half anyway])
Bikey, Pearce, Cisse
Harper, Matejovsky, Karacan, Tabb, Davies(preferrably loan to League 1/Champ)
Henry
Kebe (under duress), Robson-Kanu
Long, Mooney, Church, NHunt

I'd be looking at going with a 4-3-3 come 4-5-1.

So:
Priority buy would be a Right Back. I figure if we're not really playing with wingers then Long and NHunt are both capable of filling in right if necessary.

Useful buys would be a Keeper, tough Central Midfielder, Right Winger and a Striker oh and maybe a Left Winger.

To be honest, even with that basic squad I think we could put up a decent fight against relegation and we're certain to strengthern to a greater level than that

Which means I'd lose:
Hahnemann, Murty, Rosenior, Duberry, Ingimarsson, Gunnarsson, SHunt, Doyle, Lita and obviously Little and Kitson

I hope we see players such as Baggie and Taylor pushed on a bit next year also. This club is often guilty of holding back young talent till the age of 19/20, but certainly Baggie looks like he has something to offer right now.

I'd like to see them treated the same was as Karacan, Pearce & co. It seems to be working for them!
A loan to a League 1 or 2 side if possible would be excellent for them.

Hugo, you're a good judge of a footballer in my book. Your wishlist is close to my wishlist, but Ive a few amendments

Keep:
Harper - He's by no means finished yet and he likes playing for Reading. Ive a feeling that the break and a new manager will do him the world of good.
Long - Decent squad player at this level.

Let Go:
Rosenior - Really dont rate him
Duberry - We need another option there. We also need a captain, and Id like a (new) centre back to be that captain
Cisse - Dont see the point of keeping him, tbh.

As for the rest - I agree. Although I CAN see us keeping Doyle. The other two you mention, probably not.

I assume Lita has already gone in your mind.

Hahnemann, Murty, Duberry, Lita, Sodje, Bennett all contracts up? Can't see them being renewed due to age/salary.

Assume all 3 loanees go back. Why would a new manager sign them unseen?

Doyle and SHunt will go to the highest bidders.

Mateovsky and Bikey will leave for the continent probably.

Kebe SHOULD be dumped on the next plane out of Heathrow to anywhere.

Inigmarsson I feel has something left to offer, and possibly Gunnarsson, although age is against them. If their contracts are not up then they should stay to see out their time.

Hopefully we'll keep Armstrong, Harper, NHunt, Tabb.

Which leaves Rosenior, Long and Cisse of the current recognised 1st XI squad. My guess is they're cheap and have a couple of years on their conracts left. They won't attract any bids so will presumably stay. Don't know about Mooney. Poosibly he'll stay but if Norwich like him they may take him for a few bob.

Of the fringe players, Federici, Kelly, Pearce, Karacan, Henry and Church will probably stay as they are cheap and hungary.

Tell you what - the squad looks a bit thin all of a sudden!! If a Prem club takes a shine to say Harper, NHunt and Tabb, we're really in the brown stuff!

Ian Royal I think the best thing to happen for the club and all involved (and being realistic) would be:

OUT
Coppell, Lita, Long, Doyle, Kitson, Little, Ingimarsson, Gunnarsson, SHunt, Golbourne, & Murty

IN
Manager, Striker x 2 & Winger, less urgent are a Defensive Midfielder & Centre Back

We could also afford to lose one of Harper & Matejovsky Maybe both.

That Leaves:
Goalkeepers (2):- Federici & Hahnemann
Right Backs (2):- Rosenior & Kelly
Left Backs (2):- Armstrong & ....(Kelly can cover both)
Centre Backs (4):- Pearce, Bikey, Duberry & Cisse

Right Midfield (2):- Henry & Kebe
Left Midfield (2):- ..... & Kebe
Central Midfield (4):- Karacan, Tabb, Harper, Matejovsky, Cisse

Strikers (4):- NHunt, Mooney, ..... & ......

Duberry could play a part next season, but I'd be just as happy with him being replaced.

Lol at ingimarsson out! He should be our captain at the back with Bikey, things went pear shaped as soon as he got injured!!

I really hope whoever comes in does everything not only to keep marek at the club but build the midfield around him, the guy with a fair chance of regular football could do well push us up the table with assists and goals.

Happy to see Tabb next to him, the guy is small but he clearly gives 110%. Karacan as a deputy

If doyle goes, which is likely, then n.hunt to lead line with long and mooney vying for other slot

Would like to see harding signed just cos i think apart from cover for stretch he can fill in at left mid

To be fair, I can see where you're coming from with Harper. I've always liked him so hope the new break will do him good. If so, keep him. Really not a fan of Long though - Just not good enough IMO. Valid point with Duberry too but I think he's got another season left in him. Cisse will be a very handy utility man. Rosenior I think has got more to offer personally. I hope you're right about Doyle, naturally!!

As for Lita... yes!!

Few seem to be considering Lita's undoubted natural talent, and that a new manager, and the absence of Kitson and (probably) Doyle could give him a chance to get back into the side on a regular basis.

agree with hugos list tbf

have to keep ivar and doobs IMO, and if bikey goes get a young pacey CB in to make a four with pearce
cisse has done enough for me to stay, tabbs been our best player since he got in the team
id like to see harps stay, but i can see why he would be sold
sign dan harding.
keep all the yoof

doyle/matejovski/bikey id love to keep, but i just dont see it

and of the oldies ill be gutted to lose marcus, but its time to go

and brynnjar gunnarson-my favourite reading player for some reason-never let us down, a proper proffesional and the best long range shot and header at the club

all of the 05/06 07/08 team who go will be welcome back in reading whenever they like, ill even buy them a pint
gutted to see them go TBF

ingi and bikey have to stay at the back. its not just coincidence that everything cocked up the moment ingi got injured. boots doobs out to whatever pasture is closest to the glue factory and get pearcy challenging bikey for a start but ingi needs to play.

as for lita's 'natural talent'....its been in short supply. :?

robb the royal Dont understand everyone calling for Murty to leave... he only played a cup game for us all season! and he is a leader, which is what we have sorely missed this season.

The reason is in your statement!

Like Little 18 months ago, Murty is now shot, his body has given up and he should be put out to pasture.

Even since he came from from his loan spell at Charlton he's not managed to get himself fit enough to be available for consideration for the first team. We can't afford to have passengers on the wage bill and it's time we let him go. A shame as he turned into a terrific servant of the club and seems a decent enough bloke.

Little, Hahnemann and Gunnarsson fall into the same bracket too. Time to go.

Not sure on the contract situation of Ingimarsson and Duberry, but I'd imagine that if they're coming to the end of a contract the new manager might not keep them on. I think both have a season left at this level but not at the expense of another two year contract.

Clear out the deadwood cluttering up our squad, Bennett will join Brentford and I'm sure Sodje will find a club after some good reviews on loan this. Let the likes of Golbourne, McCarthy, Davies, Bozanic etc go as they and us won't really benefit from keeping them another season (Davies has been excellent for Aldershot by the way, without getting half the praise he deserves on here, but I think the step up to Championship is beyond him).
