readingbedding As I said on another thread...
If I was a manager looking at Reading as an opportunity, I would not be too impressed at the club's decision to let a player like Lita go.

So, not content with posting such utter nonsense, you elected to do so on more than one thread

Lamberts Tipple By and large old players who by definition will not be part of the re-build process. Scott Goldbourne clearly never pushed on which is a bit of a shame.

I think it can be assumed that there is a bit of wage reduction being undertaken, not only on the playing squad but also in the management structure. Whoever takes over will be on less than the sainted Steve and his backroom staff less than Kevin and Wally. Clear out the high earners and exert downward pressure elsewhere.

To be honest whoever succeeds Coppell will be on a hiding to nothing as they most likely will be expected to win promotion in their first season by Madjeski and it remains doubtful whether a significant transfer fund or realistic wage structure will be available. As well as the big name players released, other key players are unlikely to hang around for a second year in the Championship. The coming season is the last when the club receives parachute payments and according to Madjeski, 'we are going to have to cut our cloth accordingly. (How many times have we heard that one before!!)
The new Manager is going to need all the luck in the world with these constraints. The sooner Madjeski finds his 'deep pocketed' buyer and sells the club the better.

I wouldn't be gobsmacked to learn that he's been lined up for months and put on a retainer.

Why ?

It's pretty much the same scenario under which we got promoted and as Burnley currently operate.

Big name players and big budgets don;t guarantee you anything.

See Wolves most seasons, Leeds, Newcastle and many others.

A shrewd new manager blending the best youngsters, the established performers and some sensible additions will be in with a shout next season, to the disappointment of the predictable contributors on here....

Gary Johnson went public that he would be signing 2 new strikers. Maybe he spoke to lita in Jan and told him to run out his contract and take the signing on fee from city in the summer.

From good local contacts he still spends a lot of time in bristol.

If Bristol City still has the same board as when Lita left, I very much doubt he'll be going back there.

Coppell and the board have known for ages he was departing - they've already got their man and it is Alan Curbishley. Dean Kieley is coming into replace Hahnemann - watch this space.

Quote from Wikipeadia:-

Sheffield United had a seven figure sum accepted by Reading for Leroy Lita on 13th January 2009, but Lita rejected the contract offer and decided to fight for his place at Reading.[11] On 15 May 2009 Lita was told along with Michael Duberry, club captain Graeme Murty and Marcus Hahnemann that their contracts would not be renewed. Since then, many clubs have been interested in signing the player such as Stoke City, Bristol City and Doncaster Rovers. [12]

However, Bristol City manager Gary Johnson has since distanced himself from the Congo-born striker, describing him as 'a very naughty boy'.

Football is a very small, and a very insular/incestuous industry - as well as everyone in the industry frequently knowing who is going to move a couple of weeks before the press and supporters do everyone, everyone always knows about players' indiscretions.

So you can be sure that nearly everyone in the game knows exactly what Lita has been up to in the past, and the effect he's had on the dressing room at Hogwood.

Which brings up the question of when does a player become worth taking a risk on.

Different managers will have different views on that, depending on how good they think they are at dealing with "problem players".

Someone who could get the best out of Lita stands to do very well because he undoubtedly has talent - but that manager also risks a lot of collateral damage if it goes wrong.

Depends how much it would cost, and how desperate that manager is, I suppose!

Depends on squad size. A small squad and Lita will do well. Also, 'big fish in a little pond' would suit him.
Norwich would have been good!

I suspect he would have bombed at Sheffield United.

Also if the image they portray is supposedly damaging to the clubs image.

Thou Voice ...just a really stupid question here - but should it not be the new oncoming manager who picks and chooses who stays and goes?

I mean surely there is food for thought that a new manager may want to have say Marcus in his team? It's not as if he's that bad for christs sake?

It looks to me we're having a firesale... :(

It may not be the brightest move, but given that we've simply not renewed their contracts, and not sold them how can this be a firesale.

I wonder whether the fact that he's black and trouble might make it a little more difficult for him?

Shouldn't do, but I do wonder whether it might.
