Sun Tzu
floyd__streete Could be a tough August :| !

Why not pop down to Thomas Cook and book a few weeks in Spain then...

Save yourself some heartache and save us all your miserable whining

Just some observations on the day, Sunny. If you think that my doubting a central-defensive partnership which constitutes two of Pearce/Cisse/Gunnarsson is miserable whining, just wait until those who live in blissful ignorance start to twig in August that Rodgers team is just the same old sh*t in a different formation and HNA's server drowns under the deluge of discontent 8)

Rodgers has already said he wants to bring in a couple of new defenders, so hopefully it should be sorted by August, but at the moment Cisse and Gunnar are the best we have.

I suppose that at least teenagers not needed by Chelsea will have some pace. Bertrand was strong defensively today and retained possession intelligently. We didn't see much of him coming forward.

A few random thoughts, for what they're worth.

Lots of little one-twos and close passing football (as already mentioned) but not enough people having a go - lots of good play around the edge of the box but it very much looked like we were trying to score the "perfect" goal.

Rosenior has absolutely no imagination and still will always play the obvious ball.

In the second half (when he was on) it was noticeable that Tabb was the one responsible for distributing the ball - just about all of our play went through him.

It takes time for a completely new style of play / instruction to bed down. We really should have some patience.

I think Tabb is a great little player.

Just a thought, but if Rodgers is trying to instill the passing game
might he have sort of said he didn't want lots of shots from half-
chances raining in? That is, it might be different when it matters

Some of the kids might look good NOW in half-speed, half-hearted
kickabouts but they may not look quite so good when getting kicked.

..and Blackburn could only draw with Souhport etc etc

Far tooo early to race to any excitable opinions, and even more so conclusions.

How did the other Reading team do at Tooting today?

3-0 to the Ring-a-ding-Ding; Sigurdsson, Antonio and someone - presumably a trialist - called Owen Goal. I know this because I am the greatest Reading fan ever having watched both games simultaneously via Reading World.

We lost 2-1 at Farnborough around this time 4 years ago. And then we won the league by light years from the rest of the field. That won't happen this time of course, but at least we aren't Manchester City who lost today to the Florida branch of the Bristol Rovers supporters club.

Yeah all I saw was someone fall over, and a shout "No pen ref?"

I have no idea what happened at that end.

The biggest entertainment was during the warm-up. We started with about 10 balls in play, practising passing and shooting. However there was no safety netting in evidence. This turned the whole exercise into a game of "See who can get the ball into the trees behind the goal" or "How many spectators can you hit with one shot." I was just thinking that SHunt was showing no signs of improvement when one of his shots bounced in front of the goal, over the fence, and spilt the cup of tea I was holding all down my trouser leg!

Joking apart, it was interesting to be at such a compact ground where you could hear everything the players were shouting to one another, and could get a very different view of the game at close quarters.
