FiNeRaIn Our wage bill is sweet FA anyway- why would we want to lower it even more?

Have you ever run a business?

If there are a 2 or 3 high(er) earners that don't really featue in the managers plans why wouldn't you want to try and move them on? It's clear that BR hopes to bring in 1 or 2 more players, if SHunt, Harper or Bikey were to move then it would make things a little easier economically, wouldn't it?

Hes a Rangers Fan and they dont understand YET that spend spend spend gets you in trouble

Me to. I have said on this board numerous times that Harps offers more to the team than people realise. Personally I think that Harps could really benefit from BR's new system and given freedom could potentially run a lot of games this season.

Not really sure why people on here have to slate him, he, as far as I know, has never once stated he wants to go, never acted anything but professional and never played on camera for a move.

Mick did'nt want to sign a crock apparently.

Shame. He needs to move on. Been in his confort zone too long.

Royal Lady If this fell through because Harps failed a medical, this surely means he won't be playing for us any time soon :| One can only imagine it's a long term injury.

He played in Sweden.....

There could well be a big difference between how you view a player's fitness depending on whether you are about to spend a lot of money on a fee and wages or just whether he's going to play on Saturday / Tuesday. Wolves may (say) have been unhappy with how much of a fitness test he could carry out due to a minor injury and therefore decided not to go ahead whereas becasue our staff know him they might be happy that he is fit to play.

Is it certain that fitness was the issue? McCarthy says "I talked to him and we're not pursuing it". That suggests something more about the conversation than a fitness test. Maybe he wanted too much money, or was unenthusiastic about the move. Harper has had opportunities to move before, but I think he loves it here and doesn't really want to move.

I've always thought Harper goes as the team goes (and not the other way round). A new regime, fresh enthusiasm, if we get started well it could be a new beginning for a player who has plenty to offer.

Dispute that. And even if he was, I'd still rather have him than be yet another good player down. What chance replacing him with a decent signing? ! If that happens there will be so many pigs needing to land somewhere that they will have to build that 3rd runway at Heathrow!

James Harper loves this club, lives and breathes it. Just wanted to see if the grass was any greener elsewhere .... oh, and it helps if you can pass the medical!

I suspect he will be around to badger Mr Mad for a testimonial at the end of next year. Personally have no issues with him. Always gives 100% and as others more qualified have said, he may well be better suited to a midfield that actually plays the ball, rather tyhan hoofs it over his head. Whatever you think of Judas and Sir Steve, they both held him in high regard, and they are generally considered to be better judges of footballers than we mere scribblers.

On this, we definitely agree.

Who are you referring to as Judas? Alan Pardew, I hope?

I personally would be happy for Harps to stay. His approach to the game and his demeanour when interviewed is entertaining. I hope that his groin injury recovers soon.

Interviewed after the Chelsea game he said:

“It’s still killing, my groin isn’t great to be fair.

“I tore a tendon in the last month of last season. I got half an hour on Saturday, but it’s touch and go still.

“It started to get better and then against Kettering I pulled it in the warm-up and that was a bit of a nightmare for me

3 months on from the original injury and still not fixed, to be honest I'd have been surprised if anyone had signed him up at this stage.

Groins are quick tricky to get right and to treat.

I really would've expected them to get this sorted by now though. Another instance of us not dealing with injuries very well over the last couple of years perhaps?

May I remind you all that it hasn't actually been said that the deal is a dead duck due to the groin injury. Someone has just suggested the medical may have been failed, probably because we all know that he is struggling a little with it.

The cause of the collapse of the deal (described as 50/50 by Rodgers before Harper went up there) could be any number of reasons.

The newspaper article or whatever it was pretty much implied it, though, didn't it?
