Personally I think (as have stated on here once or twice before) Harps does a hell of lot more than people realise, not only on the pitch but off it to, can imagine that he is great to be around. Easily the fittest player at the club and one that would really shine under Rodgers passing game.

He deserves to be treated a lot better by the club than this, under Sir Steve we were a nice steady club that did things the right way...Rodgers has much to learn although I'm not sure I want him here whilst he's learning it.

rabidbee I think there's a certain element to this that is actually the spin that the paper put on Rodgers' words. It is fair enough to say that, if Harper left, we would not sign a central midfielder. Why would we, when we have several already? If Harper leaves, as I said above, it is to enable us to sign players to other positions where we are weaker.

I rate Tabb and Karacan has been consistently improving over the last 12 months. I've been impressed by Davies and Siggurdsson, too, and Cissé is certainly good enough. The priority is elsewhere. Much as I love Harps, I see why this would make sense.

Although I'd still prefer him to stay.

I think it was the club accepting the offer and Rodgers being ok with him leaving that probably hit Harper, not the 'we won't be replacing him' comments in the paper.

The "we don't need to replace him", can't have helped, it may not have done the most damage, but it will have done some on top of the rest.

midfield is where we are strongest at the mo

based on the barnsaley game, does harper add anything at the mo? no...not even "experience at the mo. although pearce brought down odejayi, it was harper's error that developed that scenario. last minute of a cup tie after equalising.....he wasn't demonstrating experience there

was he consistently bad last season? yes

if he goes, so be it i won't be bothered. i will be hugely bothered if we don't add experience and more importantly a goalscorer up front (rofl at Long being touted as favourite for the championship golden boot)

Midfield is also the place we are failing to create anything. We have bodies, but the combinations tried so far are not working. Mainly because we have honest, hard working players by the bucket load there, and no reliable, intelligent creativity.

Henry at least sounded dangerous and was involved in forcing saves from Steele against Barnsley, but was being played out of position.

Out of all our youngsters Henry is the one that seems to be out of form at the moment or even going backwards.

Davies is the kid that impressed me on Tuesday.

Agreed, but he has been played out of position. His goal scoring record from right wing isn't that bad, and I think he could do a good job for us there.

I, like many others have become increasingly annoyed with the circus that our club has become, but if we sell Harps now at this time (and the fact it LOOKS like he is being forced out) then thats it for me and Reading F.C. after 20 years, it ends here!

i know no one player is bigger than the club blah blah blah but as i said above this is a culmination of things this summer.

Looks to me like Rodgers is making a real effort to retrain him as the creative attacking point at centre of the midfield. Hopefully that will pay dividends. Like I said, from the radio, his name was being mentioned frequently and with all our better chances.

Perhaps it's the problem with employing a Manager whose "DNA"/Modus Operandi isn't compatible with the longstanding ethos of the Club.

I really do hope that Rodgers learns from the mistakes that he has made in the last months, but I have my doubts.

This is not a jib at you but at the club when i say....i thought the reason for getting BR was that he understood the club and how it worked and indeed he worked in a similar fashion!!?

Agree totally..but how many times have you/I/we been sold something that doesn't actually do what was promised.

I really do hope that Rodgers is successful here, but he is still inexperienced at this level, and I believe that he needs more assistance than he thought that he would need, and certainly more than he appears to be getting at the moment (BTW What does our Football Consultant do?)

Ideal Personally I'd like to see Harper stay, and Rodgers can be the one to go.
After all Harper has done a hell of a lot more for us than Rodgers ever will.

You can't blame the manager! Harper and Marek are high earners here, and the club want both off their books. It's as simple as that.

He was probably demonstrating the lack of match fitness that is at least one of the reasons Rodgers hasn't included him in the league team as yet (not sure he will when he's fit of course!).

It's in the last 20 minutes that the tiredness really kicks in, and it's when you tired that you make sloppy mistakes and the wrong decisions.

Exactly. As is Harper. As were Hahnemann, Murty, Lita...as was Bikey, SHunt, Doyle.

Brendan can only work with what's he's got and is allowed to bring in. It's not his fault that Hammond couldn't seal the deal before leaving the door wide open...
