The love for McDermott

by SouthDownsRoyal » 21 Dec 2009 13:35

Am I the only one on HobNob who doesn't love McDermott, and want him to be our new manager?

Nice guy, interviews well and pretty happy with what he did on Saturday but I don't want him as our manager.

So, after 1 game and an interview has he proved himself?

We don't know anything about his managerial ability, except that he was succesful as our reserves manager.

And that his team played well on the weekend, which could mean anything really.

Over a Dowie, Cotterill, O'Driscall, Magilton.. Much rather we kept McDermott. Is he the right man for the job? Time will tell. Has my full support though.

Far too early to tell - so I won't vote.

If i were Sir John I would give him the 3 games up to and including Liverpool and if he does ok i would then give him until the end of the season.

Agreed.

Safe option.

If rumours are to be believed, an announcement is thought to be due after the F.A Cup game with Liverpool.
Edit: Southbank1871 beat me to it.

Do you have any idea whether the rumours of Southgate are true?

Let's be realistic.

Any new manager will be given pretty much bugger all funds for new players so we are stuck with what we have.

McDermott & Gibbs are therefore in a much better position than any outsider.

That is why they get my vote.

How about an option of "Seems like a nice guy, done a good job for us for a long time and I'd like to see how he does before making any sort of judgement on him. Can't be much worse than Rodgers."

I think fans are more willing to accept mediocrity if they're somehow 'theirs'.

Not saying he will be mediocre, but at the moment it really is a case of 'can't be worse than Rodgers'.

It depends what the way forward is. If the aim is to get back in the Prem then no he is not the way forward. However I am not sure that is JM's aim any more. If JM is seeking just to consolidate in the CCC then yes Brian is a safe & experienced pair of hands who the players like and can be relied upon to deliver a mid table finish year on year at minimum cost.
