Just because Reading aren't doing well, doesn't mean you stop supporting them.

rg6royal is right. I have been supporting Reading for a very long time, through the good times and the bad patches.

SteveRoyal How about upping your support for a "second team"?
Having said that... Portsmouth aren't exactly doing any better than Reading.

I support Reading through and through but like to follow Bournemouth also.

Should the two meet in the same division next year of course my allegiances will lay with Reading.

Bo****ks.I support a team that is successful. When it is on the slide with no investment and is being raped by the Madman then I spend less.

Next season with No Season Ticket I will be very selective which games I attend if any.

Negative Chairman breed Negative Fans, unless you are an RTG in which case you are already bonkers

Correct. If you want to support a team that is successful, there are plenty of teams for you to support.

I agree with the point, that if there is a Chairman who is taking the club down, you may be reluctant to provide him with money. But then you should try and oust the chairman out, by way of protest.

I am a bit confused, having supported Reading for more years than I care to remember, from
"third division south" through 3rd and 4th divisions and more recently the "second tier" and the
"top tier" ,In all that time we have been known as a small out of town 3rd division outfit,by the
media, other fans and by our own fans who have been unable to purchase a pair of "those"
glasses, however in the more recent history, we have spent some time in the 2nd tier, which
to my mind is an improvement, so lets have less of the moaning about our position ,lets
celebrate it. We will not be relegated this season so we are an established 2nd tier club, If you
have a problem with the chairman, then spend less time at " the edifice to the mans EGO"
and get to more away games.

West Stand Flash All the clown has to do was invest 5-10 million when we finished 7th and we could have become an established premiership side...

In the season following our eighth place, the net expenditure on transfer fees was over 5 million. Throw in some hefty increases in salaries (including over a million a year to the manager who couldn't figure out what to do as the wheels came off in spring 08) and you quickly get up to your 10 million invested. We could have become an established Premiership side if we hadn't been so woefully inept and spineless against Bolton and Fulham, both of whom were in much worse shape than us. The chairman was let down by people he spent a lot of money on - people like Hunt who were given salaries of over a million a year and then played like shit while bigging up moves to other clubs in the media.

RoyalBlue In some ways turning my back on Madejski FC isn't really deserting the team I have supported for the last 40 years. The current set up is becoming as alien to me as MKDons must be to someone who started off supporting Wimbledon.

utter nonsense

the last few years have been the anomaly, we are now back to how the club has been for most of its history

I would love it if Reading went down to league 1. Much more interesting than the chumpionship.

I think fans should cut the cloth of support to fit the circumstances.

Thinking back to the Elm Park days and early Mad Stad days I didn't have a season ticket and viewed each game attended as an exciting day out..... Then it made sense to get a ST after Pardew signed as I was enjoying it so much and saw some great football, not to mention two promotions inc one league title. Now that things are on the down I need to cut back on attendance, something I should have done last season to be honest. For that reason, I'm not renewing my ST next season. I might go to some away games instead for a change.

Relegation might be preferred to be honest over just staying up to fight next season, unless more cloth cutting takes place that is.

So in other words you are saying that the Chairman and the likes of Howe have been lying about what a fantastic club we are- 'the next Arsenal' or something similar I believe were the words that Howe came out with. Even at the start of this season Madejski was spouting shyte about proof of his Premier League ambition.

That aside - how can you describe what I personally feel as being utter nonsense? To me it does seem very much like Madejski FC rather than Reading FC - 'it's my ball and I'm taking it home if you are nasty to me'. And the current set up does feel as alien to me as MKDons must seem to a Wimbledon supporter.

West Stand Flash So getting us to a 7th place finish in the Premier League, then resting on his laurels and not investing in the team when it was blindingly obvious it was required, then allowing us to get relegated, by again not investing in the January transfer window when we were struggling...

Money WAS made available at this time to Coppell. It was he who decided not to spend.

How many f*cking times do people need to be told this?? :|

LOL at believing the club spin
lol at expecting any owner/chairman to say we dont want to be in the prem, and dont believe we can ever be a big club
success was the alien concept here

I do have the option of conversion to my local team.

The thought of following the Franchisees just makes me feel ill.

Maybe SJM can seel his stake to Pete Winkleman, we can then merge (although ground share would do) with the franchisees and I'm happy all round. Could even go green and walk to home games. 8)

Supporting another team isn't an option for me. Reading's part of me, like my heart and face, which I am stuck with, however much they deteriorate. I'll be asking for the Reading score on my deathbed.
