Coppell's only "mistake" as far as I'm concerned, is that he has remained loyal to RFC and the chairman since he left. I'm pretty sure that if he were to be asked about his reasons for going, the main reason would be that he knew he would be given no more money, knew he couldn't replicate his successes here with a much weakened team after knowing he'd have to sell off all the best players and got out later than he really wanted to, after some of us begged him to stay for one more season.

The players like Doyle, SHunt, Bikey etc, probably also knew that even if we got promoted again to the PL, their wages would be far less than players at other teams and so they knew that if we didn't go up, no-one would stand in their way and they could move to a PL team for much higher wages. Madejski didn't want us to be promoted again - he's already publicly stated he finds the wages "obscene".

Of those players that remained at the end of last season, we got shot of USA, Harper etc purely to offload the wage bill, no thought was given as to how we'd cope in this division without a few quality players. The bottom line, as I see it, has been money - SJM wanted to save as much as possible - he's achieved that, to the detriment of the whole club and as a two fingered salute to loyal fans.

I've asked before and I'll ask again, what's going to happen to our final parachute payment at the end of this season?? Because I'm damned sure it won't be invested on new players.

Not really a mistake. I respect Coppell's discretion. But I agree that it's left a few questions unanswered.

From the FB group (now 55 members !!!?11!!!11!!!)

Ok people here we go.......please take the time before the Liverpool game to make up placards or write on A4 bits of paper messages to the board and the chairman, somehting like board out or give us some money for players mr chairman.......remember we are live on TV and if we can get the cameras on us then Mad John wil...l have to take notice. Im also in the process of penning a letter to the club addressed to the board as my discontent of whats going on back stage at the club.......if interested the address for all letters of complaint need to be addressed FAO chairmen, Madejeski stadium, bennet road, reading, rg2 ofl....start writing those letters and get this ball rolling, get behind me if you feel as strong as i do or look forward to life in the lower leagues.
Thanks for your time and look forward to seeing the placards.

As long as it isn't on A4 paper and doesn't contain any obvious spelling errors, you should be OK to go ahead with your placard.

Turns8 Glory hunting fans....

The whole thing about supporting your team is that you do it through the goodtimes and the badtimes...far too many of you are living in a dream world if you think that the 2 seasons in the premier league were really where we belonged... :o

This is, of course, true. But our decline from Premier League staus to near bottom of the table championship club has come far too quick for even the staunchest of supporters. All the hot air and penny pinching we had to listen too and see from Madejsk, telling us how he wouldn't sacrifce the long term future of the club for the price of a few Premier league stars. Well he kept his word and spent the lowest amount ever by a Premier leagus club in one season and look where it got us. We then flogged off all the stars to get them off the books and now we are told, with relegation staring us in the face that there's no cash for new players in January. It's just got beyond a joke now. The club is a shambles and the buck stops at the top.

And now Derby up for sale for a rported £30m. Now, considering that Pride Park has a bigger capacity and they regulalrly get more supporters through the turnstiles than us, what value Reading FC?

Would Derby be in such a dire financial state had SJM been in command there?

Aren't Derby so financially fcuked though that even £30m is probably too much for them given the mess the new owner will inherit.

Patience is a virtue; you might not like what I'm saying but we should wait, and in the words of Guinness: "Good things come to those who wait".
Okay okay, "We've waited long enough!" I hear you cry. We should ensure we find the right buyer that will continually invest in the club, not just in the "honeymoon period", or else we might just end up with ANOTHER Madejeski, or maybe even worse (if that's imaginable!).
