I have always believed Rodgers should have remained Manager of Reading till the end of this season at least. The only possible argument for removing him was to bring in an experienced man, to kickstart the season. What possible improvement to the chances of survival has been achieved by replacing Rodgers with McDermott? I rue the day Madejski enticed Rodgers from Vicarage Road. Perhaps McDermott will be surprisingly successful: I doubt it; I fear Reading are going to be relegated this season.

2 world wars, 1 world cup My depression over this has given way to outright anger. I have NEVER been so angry with RFC in 28 years of support.

Madejski - you are a f**king prick.

I was taken to my first game in 89/90, and can't really say I knew what was going on until couple of years after that, but I can honestly say that this sort of cack means I have NEVER been so embarrassed to call myself a Reading fan.

May I be the first to say..........McDermott out!

FWIW I know Brian (not well but well enough) and he is very much what you see is what you get - much in the same vein as Coppell. Those that wanted Coppell back - this is the next best thing and possibly better because there would be baggage and expectation if Coppell returned which there isn't with McDermott.

I would expect McDermott to run similar tactics to Coppell and dont forget it took Coppell a while to get the team balance and we all agree we are not there yet.

Assuming we can get a striker who knows where the goal is (Phillips or whoever) and get a settled back 4 (sorry Ingi... its not you) I believe we will stay up this year and challenge for promotion next year.

Wonder how many players will be sold in the summer?

We'll be putting the under 15's out if egomaniac has anything to do with it come Aug 2010. Under 15's won't require payment after all....

Total disgrace. Absolutely disgusted at the shambles we have become. 10 years of progress pretty much down the shitter.

"he has been unfortunate to have been handed four of his five league games away from home."

Excellent point Sir John. Our home form has been fantastic in recent times. Such a shame Brian hasn't had the luxury of having more home games!

I know we have had tough away game, but even so, what season has he been following?!

Feel sorry for BM - hes not to blame for the situation the club finds themselves in...but he'll be expected to make Egoman and his grapefeeder come out smelling of roses...well sorry chaps but this time - you have definitely been outed..and the sooner grapefeeder gets on his bike and fooks off into the sunset, it cant come a day too soon

I feel underwhelmed by the appointment... but I remember feeling the same way when Pardew got the job permanently and he didn't turn out to be too bad for a while.
BM seems a nice genuine bloke.... but do such characters make good managers? lets hope so and good luck to him.

The worst thing about this appointment was the way SJM dithered and delayed making his mind up. The uncertainty couldn't have helped the team or the manager one bit. Following on from the deep cuts to the wage bill, the costly and disastrous appointment of Bodger, and the delay in sacking him SJM has completely lost the plot and the sooner he finds a suitable buyer the better (but I can't see that happening either).

I am so depressed and angry about the state of the club that I love, that I cannot be bothered to express how depressed and angry I am about the state of the club that I love.

Relegation - as I have said all season - is now absolutely nailed on.

I don't know whether this will work, but I think Madejski had little choice. It was either keep McD or sign a new manager. Any new manager would probably have less faith in the players than Brian: frankly, he would take one look at the team and shake his head--in which case he'd have his excuse ready if we failed. I doubt there's much financial or contractual difference for Madejski in having McD as a caretaker or a full manager on a rolling contract, so maybe he feels he might help him by this show of faith.

HOWEVER, if we go down, I'd like to see us get a new manager in the summer, rather than sticking with the same set up. (I suppose you could count the Parkinson appointment at Charlton as an example of how a relegated manager can turn it round, but in my opinion a Burns scenario is more likely, given this squad.)

I'm trying to work out what he would have had to have done not to have got the job. Probably ask for a transfer budget.

Well this truly sums up Madejski's comment that this really "shows the ambition of the club" It is another money saving option !! Sky Sports say he was appointed after cup wins over Liverpool and Burnley ??? does this dumb fcuk of a chairman realise you dont get points for cup matches ?? he is really fcuking this club over the sooner he finds someone to buy it the better, and get as far away as possible, and take his two stooges Howe and Hammond with him as the only way we are going to go with this three is down and down.

Laughing stock thats not the half of it, how we hav fallen over the past three years trough his tight fisted arsehole tactics...............prick !!

Sadly, I fear we may not even get to play Swindon next year. They may be in the league above us.

I have no idea what the board are thinking. I was disappointed to see Rodgers go so early. I am yet to be convinced that sacking a manager at Christmas works out in your favour. But this is beyond ridiculous.

Having said all of that, the team need confidence, and belief. Sadly they won't be able to hear me cheering from Manchester, but I hope they hear you guys cheering on Saturday. The team need it. Get on their backs and relegation is sadly all the more likely.
Good luck Reading, good luck Brian. You will need it; you are backed by a clueless, penniless board.

Can't say I'm thrilled but relegation is not nailed on...it will be if we don't get some results sharpish though. I hope B Mc can succeed. If he gets out of relegation trouble give him a three year contract. If we go down the likes of Howe and Hammond should be heading to the dole queue.

He gets my full support, but I think this takes us a step closer to relagation.

With no league wins from 6 attempts, I see no justification in appointing him. Just demonstrates Madejski´s lack of interest in the club. The sooner he goes the better.l

McD should be congratulated with his efforts in the FA Cup, but the Cup means nothing at the end of the season, except to the club that wins it, and lets face it., that won´t be us.

I fear we are fooked now....I hope I am proved wrong.

This club is now a disgrace and a laughing stock and no amount of glossing over by the Madejski sycophants can change that.

Not the right choice at all. At a time like this we need experience and I am afraid McDermott does not give us this.
