FiNeRaIn went to Aldershot vs Reading a few years back and it was a tasty atmosphere, bricks and objects thrown by many. Club officials obviously didnt realise it was a derby

When? The friendly? You don't half exaggerate!

It feels like the other day, having those nobs singing about darren byfield.

I would say our "derby" games (of league teams) would be
Swindon
Wycombe
Aldershot

Of them none are really our "rivals" unless you class Aldershot as the same Aldershot that went out of business in 92?!

It is definitely the 'same' Aldershot.
Like leicester are the same Leicester and Chelsea are the same Chelsea.

Can;t recall when Aldershot we actually a 'rival' - as in competing for something alongside us.

Never knew Chelsea and Leicester dissolved......when did that happen?

They are a rival in the fact their old school supporters hate us and vise versa.

It's how they manage to walk away from their debts. Leicester did it just 3 or 4 years ago, Chelsea back in the 80's. Start the day as one company loaded with debt, end the day under a slightly different company name and debt free. IIRC Chelsea's company name is along the lines of Chelsea1982 ltd

We're not in the slightest a 'London' club !!

Compared to the west country teams like swindon we are. I'm not saying we ARE a london club.

...which is a bit like saying Exeter City are a London club compared to Plymouth Argyle

No its not, brentford is like 45 mins in a car from reading FFS. Loads of people from London live in reading as well. Its like a mini london in a lot of ways.

It's not like a mini London at all. It just happens to be fairly close to London. But we aren't in any way a 'London' club given that we're still quite a long way out of London !

Watford is a more arguable case - outside London but on the tube....

Might as well call Motherwell or Hamilton Glasgow clubs by that logic :|

Messiah Not really a derby as such. They care little about us to be honest. Oxford is their derby, and I think most of us think of Oxford as more of a derby than Swindon.

Not fussed. Hope they come up though, as it's an easy 30 mile trip up the M4.

Is your brain full of sandwich bags?

We've played Swindon more than we have played Oxford and Swindon have played Oxford.

I've looked up soccerbase, we've played Swindon 95 times. Unfortunately, soccerbase doesn't do non-league teams (LOL @ Oxford) for head-to-head searches.

You see coming from East Berks my hatred is for Aldershite. Our real rivals.

I don't see the Swindon thing. They are like Bristol City/Rovers to me. Brentford, QPR and Wycombe are nearer than Swindon.

I have an irrational hatred for Oxford because I lived their once. Out of the city centre it is a DUMP!
It also happened to be the time they were in the top flight. This in turn meant that I had to put up with all their fans giving Billy Big Bqollocks.
They really had the bragging rights then

THis think about northerners calling us cockneys reminds me of a night out I had in Southport many years ago. I walked into a cracking back stret boozer to sample the ale. Of course, it being up north was not the greatest choice and near on everything with a sparkler  Got chatting to the locals and they asked where I was from. I said Reading. They said where's that! I aid that it was about 40 miles west of London. THey said that I must be a cockney!

Now, Southport is some 20 miles from Liverpool. So I say that if that meakes me a Cockney, they must be Scousers. They were not impressed!

London Club what bollox. We are from the Thames Valley and so are Oxford SCUM. Rivals with Swindon you may as well say we are rivals with Southampton, Bournemouth and QPR.

Rivals? The Shite
Hatred? the inbred sheep shagging kiddie fiddlers that play in red and hail from Wiltshire
Indifference? Wycombe
Irrelevance? O*ford

Depends on your opinion. I grew up in South Oxon always hated Oxford and saw them as rivals. I never really see Swindon, Aldershot and Wycombe as rivals just slightly irrelevant. I don't like Wolves either.

So everyone's allowed to have their own "rivalries", depends on your own personal history of supporting RFC. As I live in Hungerford I'm surrounded by Swindon fans (and Man U fans but they get everywhere so they don't count!), most of whom "can't wait to come up and bring us down a peg or two next season". A "derby" is just a term the media use when they want to hype the game up a bit and make it sound like it has more meaning than 3 points.
