"Could win it now" is a country mile from "will win" or even "expect to win". People who put England to win in the prediction thread were largely speaking with hearts rather than minds. I don't think any of them seriously thought we were favourites. More along the lines of "why not?"

exactly. I bet there most have been around a dozen nations who have fans who think their team are in with a shout, but somehow if England's say it, it's arrogant delusion.

PEARCEY
Maguire I actually don't think we were as bad as everyone is making out.

LOL at the hysteria though

Defensively I have never seen a worse England performance over the past 40 years.
However in one respect you are right. England could have scored 6. They scored two perfectly good goals, Lampard also hit the cross-bar and was unlucky when the keeper managed to deflect his shot away from a low cross. Defoe also hit the bar but was ruled off-side...I thought he was level with the last German defender and Gerrard had a good shot tipped away.
I also thought Klose fouled Upson with his arm up against Upson's neck.
So it wasn't all bad but the defending...jeez.

Yeah, it was a shambLOLes. They were so strung out over the pitch the Germans carved us up all to easily. Loads of space and boy did it tell that we had a fourth-choice centre-half on the pitch.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting we should have won or anything, but that second goal was actually a goal, and if we'd gone in at 2-2 with confidence and no need to chase the game then the outcome would have been different. It's hard enough to score without having legitimate goals ruled out for no reason.

Makes you laugh doesnt it?
who the hell was walking round saying , yep we've got this in the bag.
Finish top and we would have had Ghana/Uruguay route to the semi.
Play some half decent football and we would have made it.

Scotland/Ireland/Wales cant understand this, they will always be that plucky little team that turns up and gives it their best shot.
You can spot a Scotsman from a mile off, and not just because of the obesity, but because of the fecking massive chips they carry round on their shoulders.

Ideal At this point I would like to remind everyone that Norway beat Germany not too long ago ;)
Hence
Norway > Luxembourg > Liechtenstein > England

The latest linesman fiasco aside, didn't England recently beat Germany 2-1???

Scotland h8?
Pot. Kettle.
When I see an equivalent amount of pi$$ taking songs, front page headlines on Scottish newpapers lampooning the French/Italian/Cameroon, etc etc side's failure, when I can order a drink in large parts of Glasgow in my own accent without the hostile "ye anglash" retort, when I stop getting lectures from those who say that most Anglash fans are animals, whilst smashing up Wembley stadium, Manchester city centre, trying to "take" the Holte end at Villa, etc is just a few of those loveable tartan jolly japesters having a bit of a laugh. Then, I suppose, I will start to believe that it is us Anglash that have a problem. Until then, I know exactly which nation has a collective chip on its shoulder.

smashing up Wembley stadium You really must be an england fan being that you enjoy Living in the past

as for the ordering a pint in Glasgow without getting a hostile reception.. Grow a Brain.. Anyone that orders a pint in Glasgow gets a hostile reception

The piss taking well that goes both ways If the media in england didnt hype the team up so much I would suspect the piss taking wouldnt be as bad. The majority of it is Banter.. The BBC and ITV coverage of this world cup has been laughable and so one sided.. Every game that was on they were showing England coverage at before the match, half time and full time.

Oh and before you say it.. Scotland Never even qualified ... there thats your only retourt out of the way.

I'm sorry, but you might not realise it, but the English are more often than not vilified if they are on Scottish soil. Schards has already mentioned his children having to live just outside of Glasgow. His eldest would not watch the game in a pub in Glasgow. His younger son didn't watch it and was almost certainly ripped for the result when he went to school yesterday. They have lived in Glasgow for 8 years and are still picked on for being English.

Shock horror....English media regularily discussing the England team on English TV!!!!

Well I never! I bet the Italian, French, Brazilian TV statations never talked about their own teams performances, team selections, injury problems or opposition during any of their broadcasts.

Did you perhaps miss all the rubbish they put to air covering the local communities and their problems etc etc...perhaps you were too busy worrying about the 2 minutes discussing Rooney's lack of goals!

I've spent time in a few cities around Scotland, as well as some brief time in the rural areas, and we are still treated with disdain and often given a rough time in ways that are not just banter.
