robb the royal
Tad Showbiz I'm not keen on either kit. I have some issues with the home kit...

1. Why have we reverted back to a plain back? Whats wrong with hoops all the way round?
2. Looks like someone has gone crazy with some tip-ex through the blue while desiging the shirt!
3. Plain colour arms, why?
4. Blue shorts? Wrong again should be white!
5. Blue socks? Wrong should be white!

Agree with Ian Royal here the whole kit looks like it has been designed by someone while on work experience at Puma.

Away kit...

I have never liked black away kits and the red bit on the shoulders and red socks makes it look like some old Swindon away kit.

-1,000,000 for both effort and design from Puma.

I'm pretty sure there is a ruling in the football league that shirts must have a plain colour block on the back of the shirt where the printing is, so the name and number can be read more clearly. thats why last years shirt was launched with proper hoops, but early in the season, the players started wearing shoirts with plain backs

<----- like this
<----- whereas when it was launched it looked like this (and they were sold by the club like this as well, even after it was changed.

There is no ruling as far as I know that shirts have to have a plain back. Last season I recall a number of clubs who traditionally have hoops, stripes, halves or quarters had them on the whole shirt. Not only us but I recall seing Sunderland, Wycombe and QPR without plain backgrounds.

The plain back is probably just to keep sky happy in which case the club and kit manufactuers are bowing to pressure. Personally I feel us as fans (forget STAR) should put some pressure on the club to revert to full hoops on next seasons kit.

You are deluded if you think that the club give a daman about what supporters think or what they want, so long as you pay up, sit down and shut up. Unfortunately, we have far too many drones amongst our support who couldn't snap up a turd quick enough if you drew an RFC badge on it. As demonstrated by QPR above it is quote possible to have a smart-lookin blue and white hooped design. RFC and Puma once again manage to spaff up such a simple concept.

Drunken yobs don`t wear replica shirts to games so I won`t buy one.
The new kit is absurd. Along with Donny, QPR and Blackpool we have the most distinctive colours around. Why is the club ashamed of the hoops?
Regardless, any opposition centre forward seeing Mills line up John Terry style with socks over his knees must feel optimistic.

6ft Kerplunk
2011 S/S HOME SHIRT
The new Reading Home Shirt draws its inspiration from the PUMA v1.10 Silhouette. Featuring a natural hand-painted stripe graphic that is enthused by the motherlands of Africa

Can someone please track down the idiot at Puma who came up with this statement and shoot them.

I have to admit Tredder that, on this occasion, you are right. Your lot's shirt is a far more attractive/pleasing offering. Badge is iffy though!

Regardless of the bizarre kit, isn't the issue more that yet again, we have TWO new kits!

I was prepared to accept this upon promotion to the premierleague, the explanation being that the sponsor had changed so we needed two new shirts anyway.

However it is the norm for most clubs to change kit every two seasons. Now I don't know that many people who buy both home and away shirts, people tend to alternate. So all this is doing is meaning the fans, who lets face it ARE the club, are continually wearing different shirts to their team - just look around you at any home game.

The similarity of the hoops means people keep their old shirts anyway, so I doubt the change raises club revenue by any significant amount. In fact, if you don't get the shirt in the first few months you tend to wear the old one and wait and this can easily lead to people buying less than every two years anyway.

Has anyone at STAR raised this issue and what was the clubs response? I acknowledge the need to raise cash, and arguably voluntary payments like shirts are better than increased season ticket prices.

Yet, as above, the shirt does make you feel part of things. With so much recent glory, selling more shirts for our low budget youth based side presumably depends on fan goodwill. A nice gesture would be acknowledging that we will keep one of these shirts for next year (preferably the away one!)

So has anyone got inside information on next season's kit (10/11). Will it still be made by Puma, sponsored by Waitrose, and when the release date is?

The Puma deal that Reading signed, stipulates new kits each season IIRC. That deal runs till 2011/12. Waitrose sponsorship ends this year (2010/11).

From what I can remember, STAR raised it ages ago, the club gave them a nice wishy washy answer of looking to ensure they make kits last 2 seasons where possible, then ever since they've pretty much changed it every year for no apparent reason.

STAR have them, as is their way, seemingly accepted the clubs way without too much of a word against it (quote: don't buy one then if you don't like it) whilst rimming the club for insider information and the chance to hand out rumble sticks and any combination of cringe worthy gimmicks.

whether or not you buy the shirt is not the whole point.

When your team gets a shit shirt - like we have, many of us have to endure endless piss taking from friends and colleagues who are fans of rival teams - e.g Tredder on faceyb. The Newcastle fans all got it last season with the deckchair kit, Everton fans are getting it this year with their pink kit.

This is true, you don't have to buy. BUT - Kids always want the latest kits and it puts pressure the parents to buy it.

Quelle surprise, another summer rant from the Hob Nob faithful regarding the latest RFC kit release! In all fairness I decided upon release to withhold judgement until I'd seen the kit in flesh, so to speak. However from what I've seen in the match galleries on the official site so far, its a big thumbs up from me. I like the freshness of the shirt and the design is certainly something different that will stand out from a crowd. The V neckline is also a major plus as I'm not keen on collars on football shirts.

Clubs have the yearly dillema of ensuring that a new design is sufficiently different from previous seasons to ensure maximum profit from those mad enough to buy their replica year on year. Sure we'd all love to see the lads line up in a classic plain blue and white hooped design, with the traditional white shorts and socks. But lets face it, in the modern money driven world of football this would make absolutely no commercial sense.

This of course is just my opinion and matters not one jot as I choose not to wear such an overpriced, ill-fitting, uncomfortable item of clothing emblazened with the clubs latest corporate partners logo in public.

Perhaps those that insist on wearing the clubs colours to matches would be happier to spunk their cash on the following item, currently in the club shop sale at £17...
