Hoop Blah Having seen and got my hands on the kit in a shop today can I just say it feels even worse than it looks. No wonder it's cheaper than usual, it feels like a cheap fake you get of the lookie lookie men!
Interesting that SSN are running a news item on Stella McCartney having a hand in the design of the GB athletics kit and how Denise Lewis and Victoria Pendleton have both said feeling and looking good in their kit helped them perform.

Stuffed Crust Pizza Quelle surprise, another summer rant from the Hob Nob faithful regarding the latest RFC kit release! In all fairness I decided upon release to withhold judgement until I'd seen the kit in flesh, so to speak. However from what I've seen in the match galleries on the official site so far, its a big thumbs up from me. I like the freshness of the shirt and the design is certainly something different that will stand out from a crowd. The V neckline is also a major plus as I'm not keen on collars on football shirts.
Clubs have the yearly dillema of ensuring that a new design is sufficiently different from previous seasons to ensure maximum profit from those mad enough to buy their replica year on year. Sure we'd all love to see the lads line up in a classic plain blue and white hooped design, with the traditional white shorts and socks. But lets face it, in the modern money driven world of football this would make absolutely no commercial sense.
This of course is just my opinion and matters not one jot as I choose not to wear such an overpriced, ill-fitting, uncomfortable item of clothing emblazened with the clubs latest corporate partners logo in public.
Perhaps those that insist on wearing the clubs colours to matches would be happier to spunk their cash on the following item, currently in the club shop sale at £17...

Whore JackieZ175 Regardless of the bizarre kit, isn't the issue more that yet again, we have TWO new kits!
I was prepared to accept this upon promotion to the premierleague, the explanation being that the sponsor had changed so we needed two new shirts anyway.
However it is the norm for most clubs to change kit every two seasons. Now I don't know that many people who buy both home and away shirts, people tend to alternate. So all this is doing is meaning the fans, who lets face it ARE the club, are continually wearing different shirts to their team - just look around you at any home game.
The similarity of the hoops means people keep their old shirts anyway, so I doubt the change raises club revenue by any significant amount. In fact, if you don't get the shirt in the first few months you tend to wear the old one and wait and this can easily lead to people buying less than every two years anyway.
Has anyone at STAR raised this issue and what was the clubs response? I acknowledge the need to raise cash, and arguably voluntary payments like shirts are better than increased season ticket prices.
Yet, as above, the shirt does make you feel part of things. With so much recent glory, selling more shirts for our low budget youth based side presumably depends on fan goodwill. A nice gesture would be acknowledging that we will keep one of these shirts for next year (preferably the away one!)
The Puma deal that Reading signed, stipulates new kits each season IIRC. That deal runs till 2011/12. Waitrose sponsorship ends this year (2010/11).

Take that up with the British Cycling Team them, I mean they've not been very successful recently have they so they probably need your help...
Pendleton said they had a saying in the team, it went something like 'look good, feel good, go good'.
It's similar to when Tony Jacklin took over the Ryder Cup team and said they had to have the best shirts and jumpers and fly first class so they felt the equal of the US stars. It's a boost to feel you look the part.
It doesn't mean you increase you maximum level of performance, but it might well mean you perform closer to it because you feel better about everything because your comfortable and look good. As I said earlier in the thread, I don't think it makes a massive amount of difference, but I do think it could add a bit here and there and when the margins are so fine at the level they compete at then why not consider it?

Z175 You can't really see what you're wearing though?
Unless your name is Nicky Shorey or Stephen Hunt and you keep admiring how superior your feet are to the team you inconveniently still play for...
