If you thought you'd lost Bertrand back to Chelsea, what would you do? Wouldn't you look for another player? So, you find one - cheap as chips by all accounts - and then discover that you could, possibly, get Bertrand back on loan again. Do you say, "no ta, we've got a replacement" or do you say, "ok, we're interested - what terms?" *

*assuming this news is true of course.

Bertrand obviously wanted to try his chances at Chelsea and thought he could break through so we said fair enough and went elsewhere to get a left back. Surprise surprise Bertrand isn't good enough to break through at Chelsea so is being shipped out on loan.

Probably a better option than Williams, but we don't really need him now. Frankly I'd rather play and develop Williams as a permanent player, than piss him about getting Bertrand in for one more year, when the chances are poor that Bertie will ever be our player properly.

Is it economic to pick up a new left back and then not play him because you've loaned a Prem player who seems to have indicated he hadn't wanted to come back?

As for Bertrand at left wing/midfield! I'd much much rather have Kebe, McAnuff or Sigurdsson there thanks.

Shock IR makes good points!

Another left back is not the priority. It would have been great to have agreed an extension in May but now we have Williams and we need to give him a go. Good luck to Bertrand wherever he goes.

We need a CB much more.

He's only going on loan, we can always try and nick him for next season if Williams hasn't worked out as well as we hope or  we get promoted

That would make sense if we were awash with cash and felt we could afford the wages...I'd be shocked if we took them up on it, but it doesn't make financial sense. Especially since McDermonti said yesterday that "We haven't got a bean. We'll stick with what we have."

His obvious destination is Forest; they are happy to splash the cash and are still looking for a half decent left back after Shorey went back to Villa after his loan spell at the City Ground.

If Bertrand is available again for us then we would surely snap him up - hes a premiership player and was key last season. He could actually get us promoted.
The sensible option would be then to loan Williams out - eg. to Scunny! with a 24 hour recall clause to give us LB cover -which we don't have at the moment. No one else in our squad is a guaranteed starter - so why should Williams be?

We'd have waited longer for Berty if we could afford him. I'd be b expecting outs rather than ins.

personally id prefer to spend our time and money on developing our own player, rather than doing it for chelsea.

True, but he could help us get back in the Premiership and then we could possibly sign him. We've then got a fantastic investment for the future, as I've no doubt he'll be a potential England left back in years to come.

There's no reason why Williams can't develop as a squad player.

This isn't going to happen, so this thread might as well be closed. Madejski really is a tight git, ONE PLAYER, we need ONE PLAYER John.

Who is this mystery player?

I think John's just got all his money tied up in station hill. He's lent that some 20m and has presumably offered guarantees for the 50m or so of bank finance. As its goign ahead now he should make something out of it - and then the glory days of subsidies and new signings for Christmas return!

lol at tight git

why should he pay, we are a business, so if we want a player, we have to make the money to buy him

simple enough. theres alot of excess baggage in the squad to be shifted if required.

henry was a good start imo

Looks like Bertrand has joined Notts Forest on loan.

Was it something we said?

Even though we have signed a left back, it's disappointing we weren't interested in having him back on loan, as he's a quality player. Being a London boy I'm sure he'd of been keen to come back for another year.

pointless for us, we spend time effort and money developing one of their players, and when he gets good enough they take him back. Pah! to that i say

we are better off taking a less talented LB of our own and making him better
which is what we are doing

Yep - he fills in for a season and then if we do go up we have a massive hole to fill.

Way, way, better to develop our own talent.
