Hoop BlahSvlad Cjelli The biggest difference is that the English bid has existing stadia and training facilities, in the main - the others require massive investment to make them happen.
Is that a positive though? In the eyes of FIFA I think the biggest difference is that by going to Russia they're spreading the word and leaving behind a bigger legacy in terms of facilities and structure.
I think they like that aspect a hell of a lot as it's the reason they went to places like USA and Korea/Japan, to bring football to a new audience blah blah blah. They can't do that every tournament so lets hope that 2018 is one they give to a proper footballing nation (yes I know it's a main stream sport in Russia but it's not on the same scale, hence the difference in stadia requirements).
I think the legacy aspect might be important.
What change would take place in England if we have another world cup?
Everybody in England knows about football, everybody plays it and watches either live or on TV.
It is already a massive commercial exercise and in fact it might even now be becoming a turn-off because of the indulgences of those involved in the Premier League and in fact England could be a good example of how dreadful professional football can become.
I think our only case is that it's been such a long time since we had it before especially with Spain only going back 28 years compared with our 44.
Everything may well already be in place to stage a tournament and in fact I think we were on standby in case South Africa didn't get their act together however the tournament is in nearly 8 years time so Russia would have every chance to get everything sorted in time just as South Africa did.
I went to 2 games in 1966 and it was great to go because TV coverage was so much less than today but as somebody said earlier they can't get too excited about going to Bristol and watching Poland v Saudi Arabia so it is possibly only the England games that most would want to go and watch-people on the other topic showed that English football is what they want to watch, not Johnny Foreigner even if Johnny Foreigner is so much better.
The whole presentation thing is sick-power point presentations by famous people in suits and slimeball politicians creeping around power-crazy administrators in sleezy hotel rooms,my how this simple little game that we love has become literally a political football.
BTW to Schards how do you know that our bid is not corrupt or is it just Johnny Foreigner again?
We'll be put out of our suspense shortly and as Soggy said whatever way it goes can we just accept it and if it goes against us then be gracious and further accept that those other countries don't like us very much and don't go all orgasmic (as MrA did earlier) at the sight of three spivs in suits, Dave,Dave and Wills prostituting themselves.
