Austin looks likely to go to a bigger (or more ambitious) club than us. How about Bradley Wright-Phillips from Plymouth? 12 League goals already I think in a struggling side who need the money. Mooney would have been an ideal cash plus replacement option.
1) Mooney would have to agree to go the other clubwindjammer wrote:This only shows that we are NOT going to sign a striker int he January window. Surely Mooney could have gone the other way in any such deal with a League 1 or 2 side.

Yeah but 5 were penalties and they don't count as goals
He looked up to par for the Burton game, and had an eye for goal, only time I've seen him play TBFpapereyes wrote:Maybe he's not good enough. The brief impression I got was that he was genuinely slow.

That logic cuts down Shane Long's tally then doesn't it?
or he's just not very good.Snowball wrote:He looked up to par for the Burton game, and had an eye for goal, only time I've seen him play TBFpapereyes wrote:Maybe he's not good enough. The brief impression I got was that he was genuinely slow.
20 (2) 9 Goals this season for Colchester
1 (1) 2 goals for RFC
8 (1) 3 goals in the CCC for Norwich so that's 9 (2) 5 Goals for CCC clubs
Compare that to Church 10 (14) 4 Goals or Hunt 11 (11) 4 Goals this season
09 (2) 5 Goals Reading & Norwich
21 (8) 5 Goals Charlton
20 (2) 9 Goals Colchester
50 (12) = 52 "Games" 19 Goals. That is not a terrible record. I can only think either he's on a high wage or there's a non-football issue involved.
We know - I posted the link the CUFC site an hour ago.shaka's shorts wrote:BBC sport site and CUFC site confirm Mooney signed ON LOAN at Colchester until May. Presumably he could be recalled if we had an injury crisis and needed him back?

I find it odd. Irish Player of the year, and prolific over there, offered a deal by Blackburn, allegedly cost us 260,000 Euros, scored two in his only start for us, scored 3 in 8(1) in the CCC for Norwich and better than 1 in 3 in the UK...Duke the Dog wrote:Personally would've thought they'd give him a go (from the bench at least) at some point in the last 2.5 years. I only say that as I've never seen him play.
But as 3 successive managers have not used him, I guess there must be something there that convinces them he's not worth it (or no better/different at least)!
We are only allowed 3 Irish players at any given time?Snowball wrote:I find it odd. And that's not good enough when we have only (apparently) three strikers?
IMO there's something else involved.
