DONE DEAL - Brett Williams

by LoyalRoyalFan » 09 Jan 2011 13:41

Reading are leading the chase to sign highly-rated Eastleigh striker Brett Williams.
The 24-year-old has been attracting attention from a host of clubs in the south of England including Southampton, Brighton and Wycombe but the Royals' Championship status puts them in pole position to sign the goal scorer.
An impressive five strikes in 10 league starts has caught the attention of a number of clubs in the surrounding areas and Saturday's game against Lewes is expected to be attended by scouts from both League One and Championship clubs.
Eastleigh are currently eighth in the Conference South and the club would not stand in the way of a move for the forward if a fee can be agreed.

can't see it after BWP unless one of Long, Church or Hunt is going now, or maybe in the summer.

It doesn't have to mean anyone leaving at all. Signing this lad would be a punt, bring him in to have a good look at him over the next 6 or so months and see what sort of player we have after we scrape away the rough edges. The transfer fee would be minimal, the wages equally so, so it's a no risk signing and not in anyway unsettling for any of the three strikers we currently have here, or the 4th if he signs Monday.

Not sure why, it would be a punt on a non-league player, probably not a lot and he'll be more likely to be happy to bide his time and work hard.

Just based on age and the level he is playing at, it seems rather a big punt when we'll already have 4 main strikers on the books plus Bignall?

I wouldn't be surprised if we were looking at a bunch of strikers in case we couldn't get BWP and he's one of them... I'd just be surprised if we signed him as well as BWP.

Why don't we wait and see if we sign him, then I can eat some humble pie in the (IMO unlikely) event that he signs.

Surely Joe Gamble was the biggest gamble of all?

Proctor & Gamble are bigger and more expensive to buy

He impressed tonight and apparently now in talks with the club.

I don't think it means any one of the 'top' strikers are leaving though. He's got a good scoring record this season and caught our eye. He's worth a punt, but that's some step up.

Good luck to the boy!!

Have seen him a couple of times for AFC Totton against Windsor & Eton in the last year. Can't say say he made a memorable impression.

Get the impression he may have scored in the reserves match today too. On the OS the match report says words to the effect of 'the first came after great work by Antonio', doesn't actually say Michail scored though. Of course he may have done and I'm reading too much into it
