By the sounds of things, we should sign him and send him straight back to Swindon. I can't see him dislodging MIlls, Pearce, Khiz or Ingi, and Div 1 football is FAR better than playing for the Reading Reserves.

What I like about signing players like Morrison and Williams is that we look to be taking good punts on prospects for the future without breaking the bank. To be honest, I'd rather we spent 1.5 on 5 different young players than on one big name signing who could get injured or upset the team balance.

Only time will tell again how this guy makes the transition but I would personally send him back to Swindon rest of this season.

Guess this spells the end for Ivar and possible signing Kish on a perm at the end of the season which i hope is not the case as I think Kish is a quality player. I would even stick him next to Leighterwood in midfield

They seem to think they are getting £250k for Morrison (that's the release clause) and "some" of our first team squad on loan.

THey reckon HRK is one of them. Now why would we sign a young CB who isn't going to feature this season and send them HRK on loan who generally appears off the bench every week?

Because McDermott may have plans to play him this season but it is an interesting one. Can't be wanting Zurab can we?

Ahead of Pearce or Mills? I don't think so.

Church is the one that needs to go out on loan if you ask me, his touch has deserted him and he needs some confidence badly.

Barring injuries he won't. He is a CB and I would say that all of Pearce, Mills, Khiz and Ingi will be ahead of him. As Swindon fans have said he is inconsistent and still need to mature as a player.

He is being signed for the future, not now.

Ingimarsson isn't going to play championship football again.

Bit premature. He was only an injury away from playing against West Brom in the cup.

I think the last line above is also very dependent on the seriousness or otherwise of Zurab's injury.

Ivar is 4th choice centre back though, and is going to struggle to get fit and sharp enough to get a run of games in the league now unless we sell/lose one of the 3 in front of him.

Seems a bit of an odd signing this one though. He might be a gem in the making, but sounds a bit too similar to the rest of our centre backs. To me that's a bad thing because I think we need more of a mix, but perhaps McDermott has a certain type he likes and that's what he's going to buy.

With our finances as they are £250k is a lot spend on a player for 2 or 3 years time (presumably he'll be 3rd or 4th choice next season), especially when we've just spent £50k on another gamble in Williams.

Really? You'd rather have a squad full of players that won't play (like Halls, Bennett and Sodje from the Premiership years) than go out and sign the one player (say Matt Taylor) who might make a difference to the actual team that plays?

300k on gamble / future players by the looks of it. And another striker coming in, i'd rather Mr Mad spent 300k on a player for now but oh well; at least he's spending some cash

He's signing it off in the same way as I spend my budget at work. He's not putting the money up personally, but it's his responsibility.

I think that's a tad unfair tbh. We say "he's not buying players i.e. not spending money on the club" and when he spends £300,000 on two players and i expect another similar amount on a new striker (as that was the BWP fee) we say oh well its not actually Madejski spending the money. It's nowhere near good enough but for me, i'm happy as it's a start

but it isnt.
hes not contributing financially to the club any more. we are financing these deals ourselves, with money from the club.
