brendywendy hes not spending anything

I think that's a tad unfair tbh. We say "he's not buying players i.e. not spending money on the club" and when he spends £300,000 on two players and i expect another similar amount on a new striker (as that was the BWP fee) we say oh well its not actually Madejski spending the money. It's nowhere near good enough but for me, i'm happy as it's a start

but it isnt.
hes not contributing financially to the club any more. we are financing these deals ourselves, with money from the club.

Which is exactly as it should be

Wycombe Royal They seem to think they are getting £250k for Morrison (that's the release clause) and "some" of our first team squad on loan.

THey reckon HRK is one of them. Now why would we sign a young CB who isn't going to feature this season and send them HRK on loan who generally appears off the bench every week?

Because we have Antonio.................

Didn't want us to sign a defender but this guy seems a genuine good prospect!

Well if he's as good as he sounds this is a snip. I don't know about anyone else but I'm probably happier seeing us bring in the cheaper hungrier players rather than the expensive signings that were often a huge let down. These guys will have fire in their belly and I want more of that in this new squad.

I just love the optimism on this thread.

Here's a decent central defender, with lots of improvement to do, and people are already claiming that with the right breaks he's going to be better than our first England international for over 100 years!

He might come good yes, and I hope he does, but realiastically he's just another lumbering central defender who's rough around the edges. Even the Swindon fans aren't raving about him as the next big thing, so don't expect too much of him please.

Good point - think about the rave reviews preceding Matt Mills and he's turned out OK but nothing amazing especially for £2million.

Interesting, because I am obviously in a minority position. After a shakey start I think Mills is shaping up to be, possibly, the best CB in this league. He still makes the odd mistake - but isn't that expected for young player who is still developing? It isn't his fault he cost £2M (if he did).

I think he's our 4th best centre back and an appalling choice for captain.

He was much better at the end of last season from what I saw. He's been very error prone and in particular prone to stupid cynical fouling and mistakes this season. Technically & physically a good centreback, but mentally a poor one. Whereas Pearce has it up top but is not as good of an athlete.

Not up front but that was the price we agreed to - not sure what it depends on though.

How old is MM? If he's still young he's definitely got the potential to be very good in future ...
The thing I don't get is, why sign Sean M if we've already got Pearce and Mills and Zurab on bench. If either Mills or Pearce get injured will Sean M come in in front of Zurab?

presume Zurab will be gone at the end of the season and we've got Morrison in to eventually replace him.
