Some really great players for free in the summer. Phillips, Cox, Kamara and De Ridder to name a few. Fyi, Knightly is also available!

If I was playing football manager, and those players were available, I would offer contracts to half of them.

Quite a handy six-a-side team from United (well, a few years ago maybe)

I think that, at 37, we might just have missed out on Phillips' best years.

Benjani or Roberts might be alright.

4 (20) for 4 Goals last year. No league starts this year.

A couple of players not on that list, but that I assume will become available in one or another (either now or in the summer), are Micheal Johnson and Curtis Davies.

Both are coming back from injuries but have so much talent (maybe questionable attitudes) I'd be willing to risk that if I were McDermott and could afford to bring them in on long term loans or, living in dream land, a permanent deal.

If, sorry, IF, we managed to somehow go up this season these are the kind of players we might be able to stretch to.

If we stayed down then yes, we'd never get them to sign on a permanent basis, but Johnson is in need of games to test his fitness after so long out and Davies was in just the same position at the start of the season and ended up on loan at Leicester.

Unlikely I know, but not totally beyond the realms at the moment.

Now or in the summer, I think we need 3 positions:

A quality striker (were we to lose Long to injury), a left back for now and the future (ours are too slow or not quite good enough, even though we have quite a few!) and also to properly replace Gylfi Sigurdsson with a new playmaker (on the grounds that Howard, for whatever reason, does not seem to play well often enough for the Royals. Tabb and Church could do it, and maybe one day Taylor will, but for now, I think it is a position we lack).

On that basis...

Left Back: Matthew Briggs
Creative midfielder: Moustapha Salifou
Striker: Simon Cox

Granted we wouldn't sign any of these as they are not on League 1/2 wages, but this thread is just a bit of fun anyway :P

Ideal

I think Kightly has some kind of complicated knee injury that never seems to heal, so I'd not want us to sign him.

My Bosman XI from that list (I'm trying to skip the too old ones and then pretending we can make the wages) :
Gk: Kingson
Luke Young - Mensah - Gabbidon - Spector
Gera - Southern - Lee Bowyer - McFadden
Carew - Jason Roberts

Subs: Gilks, De Ridder, Edwards, Carney, Barnes, Cox, Murphy

Hasn't Carew just joined Stoke?

I suspect a lot of those players might be offered contracts at their current clubs in the coming weeks.

Check back in April...
