madstadblues Zero mention of this guy on BBC RB this evening (despite txt asking question). Surprising considering the other media coverage - mind you Dellor thought Downes was still out of work and was more interested in Mr Ben (his old PE teacher ?).

BBC rarely do anything until the club makes an official announcement, therefore don't expect anything other than "off the record" chat today until something official is announced (probably on Tuesday when the club unveil both Williams and Morrison)

Nothing new but more confirmation from Eastleigh

http://www.eastleigh-fc.co.uk/latest-news#club-news-150111

"The Club confirms that it has agreed terms with Reading Football Club in relation to the transfer of Brett Williams. Brett has had a medical at Reading and subject to the result of that, the deal should go be completed in the next few days.
The Club would like to both congratulate and thank Ian Baird and his team for their development of Brett Williams..
It is to the credit of our Management team that Brett is likely to become the fourth player that has moved into the League in the past three years ( Brett, Aaron Martin, Damien Scannell and Mark Marshall). We trust and hope that he will not be the last!!"

Good to know, but seriously believes that either he or Morrisson are seriously going to challenge for a 1st team place this season?

Good old Reading, could be as many as 3 new permanent signings this month; Williams, Morrison and Manset and quite possibly not one of them will get into the first team starting 11 this season.

This IS the Reading way. Too many times we have spent big bucks on players who have not delivered. Traditionally we have been more successful when players from the lower leagues have joined. The important thing here is that we appear to betting more strength in depth where needed. And if the players come off and prove to be as successful as Kits, Curo and others then power to the elbow.

Uncharacteristic optimism from you, TB. And a damn good post.

Completely... bed them in over first season / half season. Try to get them to the point of first team regular by season 2 / 3 depending on circumstances.

How many of our big signings have even played regularly over more than one season? I can think of very few who could really be called a proper success. In fact I can think of arguments against pretty much all of them.

Let's not expect too much of Williams-this is a great step-up from the level he has been playing at and is a punt by the club for small stakes.
Let's hope he turns out to be a Doyle rather than a Mooney.

Ian Royal
brendywendy but for the probable price its hardly a gamble at all

Why don't we wait and see if we sign him, then I can eat some humble pie in the (IMO unlikely) event that he signs.

Not sure if this has been pointed out anywhere else....

Bit like those people who don't come on and say I was wrong when we sign players after saying we never sign anyone isn't it IR?

(apologies in advance if your humble pie eating has been posted elsewhere)

Munch, munch, munch. Got it wrong.

Although, please note I did say I couldn't see it on the basis of us signing BWP - which never happened. Seeing as we seem unlikely to get a striker of his calibre in, it starts making a lot more sense to sign a couple of punts rather than just someone you'd expect to see go straight in.

Elmer Park Blimey in that interview with Fordham was McDermott Mr Grumpy or what ? I wish he was as awkward to interview when he speaks with BBCRBs gentleman amateur football correspondent Tim Dellor
who McD seems to like. Brian made it difficult for you Jonny but don't give up your day job.

Brian was a bit prickly at the weekend too. Cheer up Brian!!!
