Snowball Wouldn't follow our usual rule of try and buy

Why? He's out of contract in the summer (I think) and Phillips wants to keep on playing......

At 37 years of age should last the first 15 minutes of a game.

If this is true then RFC really are insaneeeeeeeeeeeeee

This would be a great move. Calling out for someone like him to work alongside long.

WAS a great player, but he will be 38 in July. Would he be a signing just for this season to try and get us up?

That worked with Kitson and Little!!!!

Last season 4 (20) for 4 goals.

Not a single start this season, 7 sub appearances and no goals.

I guess he MIGHT still be able to cut it, but doesn't really sound like an RFC buy

Wouldn't complain if this happened, but would much prefer the beast.

Natural goalscorer. Usually in the right place at the right time which is something Brett Williams was said to need to improve on, so Phillips would have a positive effect on him as well. Phillips wouldn't need pace here. Long can do that bit. Phillips just needs to chip in with a few goals and keep us in the play-off hunt.

I hope there's some substance to this rumour.

YES YES YES PLEASE! I am always saying to my mate who is a Blues fan they should play him more and I think that if he was the get the chances that long/church/hunt get he might be able to put them away, even though long has been banging them in recently.

His experience will bode well with the youngsters.

Think we have enough unproven players in the squad, time to get someone in who is albeit short term

Would think there would be a queue to sign him up if he is available. It wouldn't follow our usual pattern of loan signings but if we have crossed the final name off our wanted list of permanent signings we might enquire about him I suppose.

I was fully supportive of the Ferdinand move at the time, he'd scored a few goals for Bolton when in the team when Reading signed him, again on paper this seems a decent idea. Would Phillips turn out like Sir Les and be clearly past his best, or would he have a similar effect as Teddy Sheringham did when he went to West Ham?

It's a similar gamble to taking a 21 year old from a lower league in my opinion. Does the young lad step up and improve? Does the veteran still have the desire and quality to make an impact?

In Phillips case I'd say yes but he has barely played any football for 2 years and at his age like Sir Les was, is susceptible to injury. He would have to be managed well, not chucked straight into the team but eased in gradually, again almost like a young player.

I would be really unconvinced that this is the way to go. Also the cost is likely to be high. Much rather we spent the money on a promising youngster.
