They can have him if the Wright bloke comes in.

Potentially a great player, shows it occasionally
but not enough IMO and I'd guess his head is
not right. Didn't last too long at Sheffield

Probably good to let him go and release cash/wages, but we might need to replace

Barsnley boss wants him back

Perhaps this is the warm up for some sort of player plus cash deal.

If Barnsley are prepared to pay up this could pave the way for another signing - prefer Anthony Grant but might be too expensive...

I'd rather keep Howard, though I'm in the minority that see his importance to the team.

I would love this to be true but I think Howard will do a Mooney and see out his contract on over inflated wages ...

...would like to know what his importance is.??..team seems to have done perfectly well without him in recent weeks - as I said in another post, he's lived off of a few cameo appearances but has rarely delivered in a Reading shirt ..McD has recognised his limitations ,and the arrival of Leigerwood has put Howards importance to the team in perspective....he wasnt that good at Sheff U so what possessed us to bring him here is puzzling ...admittedly it was part of the deal for the hand waver going to Sheff U - tbh dont think either team came out of that deal as a winner

I think he has importance to the squad, in that he is different to any other player in midfield (Jake Taylor aside). But he's been disappointing for us and doesn't show any sign of improvement. He's had good games, but if we can bring in a young player who can fulfil his position in the squad, then I think it's time to move him on.

How can he be important, yet been disappointing? Disappointing means he can't be that important, Shirley?

You take Howard away and we're starting to get limited options in midfield. Howard is a squad player and to get out of this league you need strong in-depth squads. Look at Cardiff, QPR and Swansea. Howard is also the only player in midfield who can play in that Sigurdsson role, debatable whether he is any good, but it offers something different. McDermott brought in Leigertwood to add steel to the midfield. Howard is a more attacking player and doesn't offer this. Finally what are the benefits of selling him now? Most of you think that by selling Howard there is a high chance of replacing him with Wright. Unlikely. The money will go to the summer budget, when selling Howard now would be a poor decision.

Well Howard needs a good kick up the a**e then - if one of our midfielders got injured, how far down the list of replacements would Howard be right now I wonder....even old man river gunnar would probably get in ahead of him.....

Howard was a good player for Barnsley but for some reason he has rarely shown that form at Reading or I think Sheffield United. With respect to Barnsley I think he was their best player and the team revolved around him and I think he thrived on that. He was also Captain and penalty taker. I think it would be a good move for him in football terms to go back there and I think he might find his form again. Would probably mean a pay cut though and would mean going back up north of course. Maybe he will go back to Southampton instead in the summer especially if they come up.

More in the papers today about a possible move - looks like the story has legs (unlike Brian Howard).

He can be a VG player, but I don't think his all round game is good enough for us.

BUT

We need a real, quality attacking midfielder who can bring a touch of class, and find the winning pass.

It's what we are now missing

However, you can't have a fairy-foot who doesn't get his foot in

I think I just prefer Nasri over Fabregas, but I'll take Fab

This one seems like a possibility. I dont mind him leaving but only on a PERM deal

Worry he could go out on loan, play shit and then end up back with us again for next season!
