Drop Harte

The modern day game requires a full back that can get up and down the flanks. We don't have this on either side at the moment. Griff and Bertrand complimented each other very well. Bertrand could bomb forward and Griff could pull over to cover if we were caught. We are constantly going backwards and have no wide out ball unless it is a hoof.

The trouble with Harte is, for every goal he scores or creates he generally lets one in as well. I've never seen a player show someone inside so many times yet still get squared up and beaten on the outside. It's embaressing. You can see why he was playing centre back at Carlisle, because his legs have completely gone. He's lucky that he has McAnuff in front of him, who is always tracking back to help him out. I think this is part of the reason why Antonio doesn't get a start, because Kebe would have to payed on the left, and we'd get ripped apart on the left hand side.

He's a short term fix, we'll just have to grin and bear it for now unfortunately.

I still don't understand why we're not playing Khiza. Our only ball playing CB. Last game he played in with Pearce, at home to Leeds, we put in our best defensive performance from what i've seen. This too against the league's highest scorers who had one chance in 90+ minutes and that too right at the death on the break.

On a slightly different note, I was reading an article earlier regarding Torres' performance last night and the manager (I don't know who is he, nor do I care! ) said something along the lines of, 'I thought Torres played very well last night but he was just unlucky'. Right... so this has nothing to with the fact that he isn't actually as good as everyone presumed? honestly, he's not unlucky, he just isn't massively talented. Which brought me back to thinking about Harte and how 'unlucky' the team have been to lose late on. While I genuinally believe the whole team play a part in any result, for some reason Harte has been the main reason we've been 'unlucky' in our previous 3 games, as well as the game against Hull City, although he did salvage a point for us, but is he really unlucky or just not very talented? if it's the latter, McD please please drop him!

Torres is a good footballer but recently his performances have left a bit to be desired - he was woeful last night.

I dont blame Harte for every soft goal we concede - he is not an awful player. BUT he is slow and no stats can take this away, and if he is slow this will cause problems and other defenders will need to cover for him

I think we are. The last couple of frames show mills running right next to routledge, if he's the class player we're meant to think he is, then i'd expect a perfectly timed last ditch tackle from him. All in all, as fully signed up member of the defenders union, you defend as a team and the score sheet says Reading 0 Qpr 1 not Harte 0 Qpr 1. It's something that has annoyed me for years as a defender playing in various teams, midfielders ranting at defenders for their mistakes but missing out thier mistakes that meant the ball got near the defence in the first place.

There must be a plausible explanation
1. It's their surname?
The fact they both had Harte would make this the most likely option. It would be odd that they would both get the same if they were together.

2. They are Leeds Utd fans and have a soft spot for Ian Harte
Remember Leeds used to be a big club. We have a lot of plastic fans who regard Reading as their local team, as evidenced by the booing or cheering of premiership half time scores. Its possible some childhood Leeds fans started to watch us week in week out and kept that up even with Leeds' relegations.

3. Cheapskates
The have probably already got Kebe and Tabb. they then move onto Long, so who else?

As for Torres. He has a FANTASTIC talent. He is deceptively strong, he has great technique, loads of power, deadly accuracy but a huge price tag and a dropped Drogba to justify and no man can handle that pressure. Quite how this parallels ian harte I have no idea.
