Player of the Season

by Royals-lad14 » 15 Apr 2011 11:47

Who is your player of the season?
Long for his goals, hardwork, and some outstanding performances
mikele for his composure and breaking up of play
McCarthy for some outstanding saves after only just been given a chance at such a young age
Karacan for his running on and off the ball, his energy and also his cracking goal at preston
my opinion:
1.Shane Long
2. Mikele Leigterwoood
3. Alex McCarthy

Very tough one this season, so many options. I think it's between Long and Legs. And am going for Long for his goals.

I think it just HAS to be Shane. I'd agree with Legs second - maybe Karacan third as he has come on in leaps and bounds this season imo.

Long just edges it ahead of Karacan and Legs for me. Karacan has come on leaps and bounds this season and Leigertwood has been class since he's come in. But if it wasn't for Longy's goals we wouldn't be where we are right now.

Shane-o is obviously nailed on for this.

As good as McCarthy's been I can't see him being in the running as he's only been playing over the last couple of months, and whilst he's been solid and pulled off some good saves I wouldn't say he's been absolutely outstanding.

The positive effect that Leigertwood's had on the team is pretty stunning really. He'll be in the running and rightly so, despite only coming in around the turn of the year.

Zurab should be in the reckoning because he just oozes class, but unfortunately for both him and us he too has been in and out of the side until recently and it's therefore difficult to stake a solid claim.

Third place should probably go to Karacan for his ever-improving performances. He's become a really solid part of the team and is so much more dynamic than a year ago.

I'm going for McCarthy. Not just because his tenure between the posts matches the exceptional run almost exactly, but because it sends out a message to BMc not to rush Federici back.

Long - for his improvement, valuable goals and dedicated performances.
Leigertwood - for filling a hole we didn't even know we had. Brought stability to the midfield. Looks class.
Karacan - just been fantastic this season, done everything extremely well, scored two fantastic goals.

Special mention to Harte, who has proved people (including myself) wrong and hits a FK beautifully.

If Harte had taken the penalties then he'd be top scorer now, and that's from left-back.

Few tap-ins from Shane Long aint gonna change that so i'm going for Hartey. It's for the whole season and Long was uttershit until about Oct/Nov time.

1. Harte
2. Long
3. Leigertwood

(although game-for-game I do think Leigertwood has been our outstanding performer, he just hasn't played a whole season)

So even though Long was, according to you, "utter shit" for a third of the season, you'll still give him second place?

Yes. It's Player of the Season so you have to consider who has contributed the most over a season (McCarthy for example, has done very well but wasn't in the team for months. Karacan has flitted in and out as well)

Long has been leading the line extremely well all year and even with the goals taken aside I think he's played immeasurably better than he ever has done for Reading before.

I haven't voted for this since 2003. The year when Forster carried us almost singlehandedly to the play offs. POTS of course went to James harper for having a good March and April.

Long all the way for me, but Leigetwood has had a massive influence on our season. He should be considered though as he is not a Reading player.

For me it has to be Long. Without his goals and overall contributions we would be nowhere near where we are now.

Special mentions to Leigertwood, Harte and Jem

Is it first past the post or AVS?

Long and Harte are the two that have stuck out for me, I'd probably go for Long on merit, but if it gets close I think it will still have to be Long as winning will probably have a positive impact on him and might tempt him to stay, Harte is an old pro and doesn't need it as much.

It's got to be Long really. He may have had his bad patch, but so have most of the other candidates (out of those who have played a full season), and his best periods have been much better than anyone else's. (Although I reserve the right to change my mind should the stupid-looking, gay-running, Tipperary Star appearing, "How dya loike dat den" Paddy leave us in the summer.)

Ian Royal Best Comeback of the Season:
Chris Armstrong

The one that ultimately saw him retire? You're dafter than I thought

Anyways, just to spite the miserable pcunter who sits next to me I'm going for Long, if we had AV I'd have Jay Tabb and Boris as my second and third choices as sadly Leigertwood is ineligible

Why is Leigertwood ineligible? Bertrand came 3rd last season. He's also been here since November and will have played in the majority of our league matches.

I agree that Leg and McArthy have been great, but player of the season means just that 'season'.
My top 3 would have to be
1) Long
2) Harte (90% of a season!)
3) Mills/ Karacan

A good team is based on a good skipper
Karacan's been brilliant and cost us £0.
Harte's contributed loads of goals interms of scoring and assists
Long's also won numerous penalties, headers, throw-ins, free-kicks tackles, so he wins it for me.

If we can sign Leg, he's bound to be a contender next year

Long and Leg, but I opted for Leg. Our season has completely turned around since he joined, his presence has transformed the entire team.
