Silver Fox
oldebiscuit This is not a day out. This is a serious days work for both fans and players.

Maybe for the players but I'm fairly sure I'll be far too drunk to do a serious days work

Well done for creating a new version of the "I'm a better supporter than you" argument though

'greed.

Far better 40,000 whether "regulars" or not than th old days when crowd changes were announced to the team.

I took a ‘newish’ girlfriend to the Bolton play-off final. As I sat with my head in my hands, totally distraught at the final whistle....she uttered those immortal words....."it's only a game, for heaven’s sake" Not once did we speak on the way home. It ended shortly after.

And it'll be quite the adventure for people from Swansea to come to London anyway.

Yeah - that's what worries me, because they're much more likely to be more committed after decided to make the journey.

Maybe, but perhaps they'll be distracted by the giant iron carriages, people walking upright and the relative scarcity of tracksuits.

And sheep.

Did someone say somewhat sexist

Good point.

I expect a fair number of Swansea fans up in London will see signs pointing to Shepherds Bush and so won't actually make it to Wembley.

Sorry OB but it is a day out and a great bonus given where we've been in the league for most of the season. Winning or losing won't change that.

As for the atmosphere, this is Wembley FFS, there isn't any.

ACOLITO.

I had been to many RFC games in a couple of years up to 2001.... ah those glorious away games at such glamorous grounds as Chesterfield, Bournemouth, Mansfield...never really understood the attraction.

Then the play off final -

It took me that long to work out why it mattered. I don't think I have ever been as devastated or as drunk as that day. Even in failure it is possible new true fans are born.

This actually promises to be an utterly drab atmosphere doesn't it. Our 17,000 regulars spread out amongst 23,000 day-trippers. I expect a half-hearted URZ pre-kick off and that is about it. Still, as long as facepaint and jesters hats are on display that will please the families.

The OP is fine in sentiment, but does seem to fail to appreciate that just because a fan hasn't been for a couple of seasons, or doesn't go to all / majority of games doesn't mean they aren't as rabidly supportive as a home and away STH.

People need to realise that just because we only have ~12k STHs and an average attendence of 17k+ doesn't mean we don't genuinely have a strong fanbase of around 25k+ fans. At least. We do.

With ~12k STHs there is no way we could average 17k+ without having at least a similar number of fans who can only make some of the games.

Found this on the Swans OS. So that'll be that then. Head for these watering holes, get there first and that should liven things up.

Meanwhile, we've also got some recommended pubs for Swans fans searching for refreshments near Wembley. They are:

The Torch,1 - 5 Bridge Road, Wembley

Crock of Gold, 23 Bridge Road, Wembley

Moore Spice, Wembley Retail Park, Engineers Way

Blue Check Café, 12 - 13 Empire Way, Wembley

Premier Lodge, Bridge Road

Rim Zima, 1 Empire Way

The Parish, 120 Wembley Park Drive

First Class Sports Bar, 125 Wembley Park Drive

Piri Piri Sports Bar, 33 - 39 Bridge Road, Wembley.

Cheers from the Swans!

I think a few people are reading the OP a little wrong (or maybe I am). To me that sentence is more of a call to arms and rallying cry then a new version of the "I'm a better fan than you cos I go to lots of games" argument.

FWIW, we need to put in a shift on Monday, to get the not-so-regulars going and singing as much as the regulars and so it's not just 17,000 scattered amongst the 40k, it's most of the 40k who are making a real noise for the lads. Not that I think (hope!) they'll need much encouragement.

Thanks reading-fan, that is exactly what i am suggesting. This is nothing to do with non regulars, and if people read my post in full they will se that i mention that i have no problems with new faces. You have got the nail on the head, it is all about getting everyone (new and old faces) up and making some noise together, not just enjoying a day out win or lose.
Cheers reading-fan, this thread was drifting in a nasty direction.

For those of us old enough to have attended the Simod final and 95 play-off final at the old Wembley, are you as excited about going to Wembley as you were in previous years?

I'm not. Wembley was special and full of history. Now it's just feels like another new stadium. Also having the FA Cup semis devalues Wembley for me.

The day and the occasion I cant wait for, especially Wembley Way and seei
ng the masses of fans. But the venue just doesn't hold the same excitement it once did for me.
